Bit Plane
I just bought a Fit Racer at a gas station today to begin my latest project. I did a forum search to see what all of you have tried. Looks to me that they were all balsa planes or moded rubber band planes. I plan to use a peice of thermoformed Lexan for a fuselage and hopefully two 2.2 motors (one on each wing).
I will probably use a peice of foam for the wings. I have already got the wing mocked up and a foam template for the fuselage. The only concern I have is the radio only having two channels. This leaves me with two choices: wire the motor(s) constantly on, or fix the elevator. It may take me some time to get the correct setting, but i think it will be worth it. I will post pics as i progress through the project. I am really looking forward to getting some input on this.
Thanks,
Josh

I was interested in making a bit plane , but the only instructions I could find were in asian and they wouldn't transalate at all. Do you have a link or links to some more info on making a bit plane?

WELL you could use two pcb, or split the chans and make it kinda like a 4 chan up down left right with fixed motors (on) if u used two pcbs (diff freq) u could really do some crazy shiznit. do a dual cell onit for each motor.. and those lil bastards would fly...

Bit plane links.
Gentlemen,
There is already a large body of knowledge out there on Bit planes, it's just not in these forums. Check out some of the posts in the indoor and micro flight forum over at RC Groups:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/forum...php?forumid=85
From what I've read, it's kind of tricky. You have to build a gearbox, and use a li-poly battery to save weight and pump up the voltage. You should shoot for an AUW under 20g. You will also need to boost the range of your controller, and might want to add a MOSFET to the RX to boost motor output and add 2 or 3 step proportional throttle. Check out the mods on:
www.rc-cam.com
The range mod on a decrippled Tx will give you about 200'! Working with a free flight model and ditching the bit motor can really help! Good luck!

Well, I'm back to the drawing boaur on a design for the fuselage, I decided that my precious design was not exactly what I wanted, it just didnt look right.I have come up with a design i like and will start on the buck tomorrow or friday. This may take a while. I suppose i could just mod a rubberband plane or a glider, but i want it to look somewhat like a real plane. Thanks for the links above they were a real kick in the ass to get me going on this. If I can get this figured out i may sell a wing and fusealage kit akong with instructions on how to put the bit electronics in. If anyone sees any other links that may be helpful post them or e-mail me.
Thanks
Josh

Well, after a hectic weekend I am still not started on the buck, but i am coming along with the internal mechanics of the plane. I plan on mounting a small diameter rod to the steering mechanisim and running it directly to the rudder. I also decided to go with one motor for now, I figure that will move enough ari to get the plane off the ground. I would also like to try a 3.8 spinner for more rpm on the prop. The problem is I dont know if the little motor has enough torque to maintain a constant speed that is close to 38000 rpm. For now I may just try a 3.0, any thoughts?
Till next time,
Josh
