bit plane

I saw somewhere in the internet a plane made from bit char-g parts.
I figured out that the steering (left/Right) is controlled by the steering mechanism at the rudder, but how is up/down controlled?

the climb rate is most likely adjusted by non RC flaps that make lift when the plane moves forward

maybe the climb rate is fixed, but then varies on speed. basically what i'm saying is that the vertical raiser fin is fixed and you have to kind of pulse the throttle, where as if you give it constant gas it continues to climb till out of range

I was thinking that, but, Is there some way of adding a switch to the controller and use the forward/back for up/down controll?
anyone know how to add an extra switch?

i don't think you can add another switch.... the remotes they use run on preprogrammed channels, if you had a lot of background knowledge with basic stamps then you might just be able to hack the chip and reprogram it but other than that your best bet would probably be a pulse throttle or a steady throttle and then wire the forward/backward to a kind of steering like set-up for the veritcal raiser.

I think pulsing the throttle sounds better.

anyway, I'm off to buy one of those cheap wooden planes powered by a rubber band, a soldering iron, and some wire.
hopefully when I'm done, I can learn to fly without hitting any flying animals

I can tear apart 2 cars and use onecontroller for up/down left/right and the other for mottor control and I was thinking of having a little magnetic clamp to hold little noise makers and have it drop them when I press a button

don't forget however that you have to be concerned with the overall weight of the plane, those motor do not produce a whole lot of torque as it is and now you want to add extra weight to the existing battery and control unit already on board.. seems to me like an unneccesary amount of weight and a good way to never make it off the ground...wow.. i'm sorry if that sounded mean.. i didn't mean for it to sound that way, anyway good luck let me know how it goes

contains plans for a bit plane, the only thing you need besides the car is a lithium polymer cell. Read the whole forum, it has lots of good FAQs.

I've seen those sites before.
I was thinking about sharing battery for both pcp boards.
the steering shouldn't take that much power, does it?
if it takes too much then I will switch to the lithium polymer battery.
and, I have a spare 2.8 motor, would that be enough?

Most of the guys on the forums use the e-charger plane motor, or the n20hv motors, available at most hobby stores(i think).

As for the 2.8, i don't really know. it would be best to use a high torque motor, like something you would use in a Wildcharg.

does it really need that much power?
all it is is one of those cheap balsa wood rubber band powered planes.
all I'm gonna do is attach a motor, pcp(s), and some tiny steering mechanism.
