What is your soldering set-up???

Hey guy, I was just wondering what you guys were using to solder the brass parts together? Could I use a propane torch if I wanted to? oh, yeah, Does anyone have any gears that they'd be willing to sell, or give me? My birthday is coming up, lol. Anything that anyone has to help me out is greatly appreaciated.
Thanks,
Brad

10-30 watts seems to be about the standard soldering iron for modding micro rc stuff.

Higher wattage means it will melt solder faster, so the parts shouldn't be able to get heat-soaked before you can be finished and letting it cool down.

Lower wattage means that it will take longer; so the whole part will get hot, not just the areas near the tip. Also, you may not be able to solder sometimes, if it's too cold the part may act like a heat-sink...

For a baseline suggestion, you might as well go with like 25-ish watts. Expect more people to chime in now that it's not a weekend.

i use 40 and 60watts.. no kidding .. because i don't have the patience to wait for the 30watt soldering iron to heat up when i'm ready to put things together, and one reason is that metal parts don't get really cold here because of the tropical temperature here in the Philippines, so i don't worry of getting a cold solder joints.

Hi,
I think it is not realy a question of watts.
More important:You have to clean up the brass parts bevore soldering.
To do so, I take a minidrill with a brass brush and polish the brass part.

Then you can take a soldering iron with a large tip for better transfer of heat. (A torch works also very good)

If the parts are heats, you put a little tin-solder on it and thats it.

by the way: I use a heat regulated 60 W soldering iron (mostly at 350 °C) and for large brass parts a torch.

best regards

Thorsten
