350Z Tested, Booster explained!
Got my 350Z today! Apart from being VERY happy with it (I have my 3.8 in it and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!), I ran it through some tests.
There's been speculation and rumors thrown about, about just HOW a Booster works, well I took my Multimeter out (gawd I love my meter!) and it's a mystery no more!
The way I tested is EXACTLY the same as with my Motor Tests (link is in my sig).
Okay, here's the breakdown. All tests were run with a fully charged bit.
Voltage:
Unboosted: 0.9v
Boost: 1.3v
Current- Max output(no motor):
Unboosted: 160mA
Boosted: 321mA!!!!! (Stock Bit has a max of ~275mA)
Current- No load (with 3.8 motor):
Unboosted: 66mA
Boosted: 86.7mA (80mA in a Stock Bit)
Current- Max load (with 3.8 motor):
Unboosted: 133mA
Boosted: 273mA!!!! (225mA in a Stock Bit)
What does it all mean?
2 things.
1. Unboosted, the Booster car puts out LESS voltage and LESS current than a Stock Bit...So Using the same Motor in both cars, it would be considerably SLOWER and less torque.
2. Boosted, the Booster car puts out the SAME voltage and MORE current (Hmmm, I remember theorizing this before ) than a Stock Bit. So using the same Motor in both cars, it would be about the same SPEED but more 'punch' because of higher current.

Thanks Nam...
In theory, you could put a higher revving motor in there and be able to utilize it better because of the extra punch, right? This is what my multimeter-less tests have told me, anyway.

I agree the 350Z is the prettiest Bit straight out of the box.
Thx for the test results Nam. Might I add that Boosters are invaluable on rally style courses. They're great on hills when you need that extra push.

@_@ you guys really think so?? i think the body looks very good, but it's slightly on the high side of things.... it's nice how the wells fit flush with the wheels, but maybe lowering the chassis, or dropping the body a little would help out...
my vote would go to the red r32 pullback body... but that's not really a bit
oh, and GREAT work namuna! thanks for the info! i got a booster set coming in sooner or later... mmm AM set....

Got Mine 2 weeks ago......
She is a beaut! I kinda like the Grey wheels on it only I painted the spokes body color silver. It is a "smooth" running car, much, much better than my Lxx RX7 Booster.

I like the Bb's. That is a body that I want so bad. When I first saw one, It was a clone in a mall cart, the guy had tons of them in a stickered white. Didn't appeal to me then but now I think I'll order 2 bodies today, I have a chassis just waiting ! On your page Ed, need to show more detail, I'd love to see the battery mods up close.

That's one view.
Namuna, those numbers are from a car point of view.
What about the controller for a booster car.
Is the booster button just another sub-frequency?
27MHz as a base with (for example)
27.200 = forward
27.201 = reverse
27.202 = Left
27.203 = Right
27.204 = Boost.
A non-booster controller would not transmit the last signal.

Good question Nox. You give me a way to test and verify that info, I'll do it.

I'll open mine up and trace down the logic on the button, see where it goes. If it drops in to that IC onboard, and it's the same IC in the non-booster controller. Then maybe we can 'mod' our controllers for some new or old (like the booster).
someone (in another thread) asked about the IC on the booster car. I don't see one on mine. I just have the blob.
I'm leading to...we would need the mod on both ends (car and controller) to be useful.
(again, this all leads to modifying my NoxBox to now have 'Booster' capabilities. (basicly consider it a dont deal) I have 16 lines to use, I've used 4 (forward,reverse,left,right). Ya I got some left.

Just as I thought, it does..... the booster button goes to one of the pins on the IC.
Now...want to hear the GREAT NEWS! ! ! ! (or I hope it pans out)
In a standard bit/ms controller, that IC has that pin FREE ! ! !
Hmmmm, now I wonder what would happen when I drive that pin on that standard controller? Since I have a 27MHz booster car, I shald do the test on that freq.
Is anyone understanding where I am going with this? PinHeads !(pun intended, those with soldering irons.... get ready)
