Is this a cripple cap?
Hi,
I just got a new Honda NSX last night. I was looking for a cripple cap in the usual spots, but didn't have any luck finding one. I came across something that caught my eye though. I attached the picture of what I found. Is this a cap? I think it is because is doesn't look like that part belongs there. My range is horrible, so that is why i think there is a cap on there somewhere.
What do you think?
thanks,
mini

I have 3 bits: wrx (45mhz), skyline (35mhz) and NSX (27mhz)
So far, the only one that had a cap was my NSX. I removed the cap in the controller, next step is the cap in the car. I have to gp to Home Depot to get a new solder gun. I'll remove them tonight. I noticed that they are on all 3 of my cars

The short of it is that it restricts the range you would get on your bit.
ie; the result that cowfish_29 posted is the most common, although some have removed it and saw better or no improvement at all.

I've got a capacitor (round tan disk) that isn't labeled with white text on the circuit... could this be *my* cripple cap?

Thank you SO much for posting this!
I've been messing with my Bit-cars for a bit over a week now, and was sick of the signal drop spots.... well, now I can control my 35mhz Lancer Evolution (Red) from the opposite side of my apartment!
Time to take my other controllers apart and see if they have the same caps.......
EDIT: My 45mhz Mazda RX-7 FD (Yellow) came next; the thing was a bit more stubborn to remove, but it came out with a bit of coaxing. As for range, not quite as good, but I had unknotted and unwound the antenna for the Lancer; odds are if I do it for the Mazda, it would match. As it is, I can control it from one room over; plenty of range. One controller to go! And to think; I haven't had the cripple chips on the cars themselves removed; if I ever need more range, that may be the ticket....
EDIT 2: Nuts! My 3rd and final "car" is the auto modelista set; different board, different car innards.... no way to tell what's what in there.
Oh well; I guess I'll wait for someone to figure out how to mod the set. 2 long range cars are better than zero.
