oush button turbo.
lisiten to this, i was thinking about doing a turbo mod, not a no reverse an acctual "push-button boost". what if you could rig up a switch to a third cell. So you would be running 2 cells which is fast (assuming that it is fast i have no experience yet) and then hit another button, not reverse, and have the third cell kick in. im only 14 and have no experience in this kinda stuff, can anyone help me with this i think id be a reat project.
also how do you do the joystick for a controller mod?

good news, ur project is now completed. sorta.
what u described is exactly a bit booster.
simplistically, a 3 cell bit booster would run the same speed as a 2 cell car in non boost mode, but when u hit the button, the motor gets the speed of the 3cells.
the button regulates the current to the motor.

u need to buy a bit booster pcb to swap into the zz and a 4 band controller...there is nothing u can modify on the zz pcb to make this change alone, u gotta do the full swap
and use the 4band controller.
you'll have to desolder all the wires, including the tiny steering wires, from the zip zap pcb and resolder all of them back onto the booster pcb.
the boards have labels next to the solder joints in tiny white letters .ie V+ V- L R F B..just make sure you solder the wires to the same functions on the donor board.
it's pretty easy.
you can get an lxx booster as a donor..they are cheaper than the bit and run fairly well.
if u have any problems during the swap, just ask. ive done several...and there's a bunch of others who have done swaps too. it's definitly worth it. especially with a booster pcb.

You don't NEED a 4 band controller. Don't mislead the boy. If you wanna do it cheap, buy an LXX Char-g with booster function and swap the pcb from that. They only run about $10 vs. the expensive 4 channel controller. This way, you get a car with controller and you will have some extra parts. I did this to my Zip Zap and used the Zap antenna on my car. I now have 65 foot range for some magical reason on my 3 cell booster Zap.

You would have to get it from some individual who want's to sell theirs. (not likely to happen) Remember, you do need some kind of controller with it. It's not too hard to switch them. Just be sure to keep those steering wires straight. Don't get them mixed up.

Ya, for $100
Here's the problem with that request:
1. Zap cost $20
2. Booster car minimum $10 + s&h
3. Extra cells $5-$10
4. Shipping to you cost $60
So ya see, this comes to roughly $100-$200

That kinda defeat's the purpose of what this guy is trying to accomplish, eh? If you already have a Zap, go to toyeast.com and order an LXX booster car with controller for somewhere around $10 +s&h. Then just swap the boards. Or, send them to me and I'll do it for ya. It's not too terribly difficult. If you want to send them to me to do, make sure you include however many cells you want installed, and be sure they're all the same type, ie... nimh, nicd, lion.
