Rockets
u know those really small rocket engines for hobby rockets, could someone attach one to an old bit and make it electrically ignited somehow? Cuz i think the engine is set of with some sort of electric matches.. can someone tell me what they think!
The smallest ones i've seen are about 1.5 inches long!
This would be really cool

That might seem like a cool idea, but you will melt your Bit. A long time ago I used to put model rocket engines on model cars and G.I. Joe vehicles. Needless to say those items are no longer part of this world as they were melted and destroyed when they flipped through the air and crashed into the ground repeatedly.
A better idea would be to do the dual battery, or the 6 volt battery mod, and get a faster engine if it is speed you are looking for. Spare you poor Bit the melting and cruhing humiliation of an Estes rocket engine.

I put a estes "C" engine on my old pinewood derby car, strung it along a line on the ground and lit it up. I think we clocked it at over 200mph. Unfortunately the end of the string was tied around the end of a metal pole in a parking lot, so the car basically disitigrated. Fun Fun Fun...
This was a long time ago when I was in 8th grade and in rocket club.
I was thinking about coming up with a contraption so I could use a "A" engine behing a Mini-racer and keep it far enough away where it wouldn't melt the car (sorta like wheelie bars w/ a rocket on it). Who knows.... Maybe I would have the fastest mini-racer out there then.

i'll save you the trouble, as ive done it about 15 years ago with a matchbox car. it flips and tumbles..bounced about 10 feet in the air and spun in circles on the ground in random. it flew in every direction and practically hit us..and we ignited it 25 feet away.
a matchbox car is only 99 cents. a bit is at least 20 bucks.
[b]there's a reason why you launch a rocket off a long metal rod.[b]
even wings on your bit wont stabilize it. it needs a few feet of guided travel before it will go in it's "intended" direction. and even after that, a normal rocket wobbles and spins on it's way up. they dont fly straight and a Bit definitly wont follow the ground..a few lbs of thrust even from the smallest engine isnt going to allow for any steering no matter what.
a productive use of a mini rc with a rocket setup would involve using the board to remote launch a rocket from its launch pad. have the pcb trigger the ignitor. no more dealing with those long launching wires.
those jet powered drag cars create immense ammounts of downforce(several tons) that keep them planted to the road.
