Question can a zz handle 4-cells

Can a zz handle 4.8 volts? I have the cells already but i'm afraid to put them in. Has anyone done this? Btw, If I can do this I should have something VERY cool to show you all in about a week.

Re: can a zz handle 4-cells

Somewhere in this forum this has been discussed, but yes they can handle 4.8. In fact they can handle 9. Who knows, maybe you'll be the one to push them even further....if you do it right with a transistor and what not, you could probably put a whole lot more through the motor, but I think 9 is about the limmit for the pcb.

Funny I thought the limit on the zip pcb was around 6v, maybe the revised pcb can handle more. I agree this has been addresed before and a search of the threads would be your best bet for an answer.

I did a 4 cell twin engine car, and blew the PCB. The second engine is what blew it. Too much draw. I think four cells with one motor will be just fine. HERE'S A LINK to my page with a video of my 3 cell Zap doing a 2 second scale (20.5 foot) 1/4 mile run. With wider tires, and maybe a LAYMAN 4 cell, I just might be able to get it to go this straight. As it is, it's VERY hard to tune it to go straight on a slick floor with 3 cells at 7.8 mph.

???

I have a question. I was wondering if I could use an X-V Racer battery in my ZipZap. And if I can, would it be any improvement?

i'm pretty sure the zz pcb has a 3volt regulator built in...this is the reason why using anything over 3volts doesnt fry stuff...it
just gives off excess as heat. no need to go past 3 batts.

I decided to just use 2 cells anyway. Still not enough torque, anyone know if you can do the max torque mod w/ 2 cells?

If is't regulated, it doesn't do a very good job. I did a 4 cell and got more torque and speed.

Goodness!!! Just what kind of torque are you looking for here? A two cell zip that's geared right should have tons of power. What's your gearing like?

After having a 3 cell Zap, I'm not satisfied with a 2 cell Zap. You get kinda okay torque with 2 cells and low gears, but speed suffers. If you bump it up to 3 cells, you can get great torque with the high gears and also get tons of speed. I'm still thinking about building another 4 cell Zap, but just using one motor this time so I don't fry the PCB.

There are those out there like me who have a decent 1 or 2 cell "race car" that just like to push the limits and see how far they can go with another car. If there weren't, drag racing would probably not exist.

Okay, I did a 4 cell Zip Zap last night, but I used a Bit Booster PCB instead of the Zap PCB. I think the Zap will handle it, and perform fine.

Oh...btw here's a LINK to the thread with pics and description of my Zap.

My gearing us 12:1. What kind of torque do I need? Well i'll just say, "as much as I can get!"

Uhmm, can you do the max torque mod w/ 2 cells?

Not sure bout that, but if you just do a 3 cell, you don't need the max torque mod. Any more torque and you'd have to custom build some ugly tires to get any traction on a moderately smooth floor.
