I followed google to this guys site on scale modeling. His work is intense! I realized there are some really committed people out there making these things look 100% realistic. More detail than many of us may ever want ( performance #1) but having a few cheap and totally modded body to run at the track would be cool.

How to chop a top and make it look low and mean. I really like the slanted B pillar.

I have started a couple 1/24th scale model projects recently and have a couple kits on order.

I LOVE my new Rocket Racer. A ZipZap got me started. I really enjoy creating new bodies for it, but at 1/64th scale there is only so much that you can do.

Then I read about the 1/24 & 1/28 scale R/C cars and I knew I was hooked. I bought the Rocket Racer because of the price and the amount of replacement parts available for it.

My only real complaint was that the bodies that came with it are cheap and flimsy.

I have started a couple model projects to provide alternate bodies for my DRR. They are:

1958 Plymouth Belevedere
#88 UPS Nascar
Gran Prix Nascar (supposed to be #18 Interstate Battery)

Next In line:

1957 Chevy Nomad

On Order:

Mach 5 (Speed Racer)
Vintage VW Bus

I hope to post pictures on my website this weekend.

Just to let you know, I found that many 1/24 or 1/25 scale model bodies are not a direct fit. You should have no problems with fitting Nascar bodies, but the others may need to be modified. I've found that many bodies won't fit because they're too narrow, or won't clear the electronics. Please let us know what bodies you get to fit, or better yet post a picture.

Yes I am curious to know just a few that wil fit as well..

I'm sure there has to be some that will! I have heard that slot car bodies won't fit either.. What about touring car slot car bodies? It's understandable that the gtp style bodies won't fit but touring bodies will give more clearance for the electronics in the rocket racer..

please do let us know if your find some model bodies that will work,..

Here's one that I got to fit. I haven't started it yet. This body won't fit with the stock receiver/esc set though. I cut the receiver/esc unit apart and rearranged them for this to work. There may be other ways but I had already cut my electronics before testing this body.

Wondering if the ESC was to big to fit under the hood. If so you could always mod to hood to give it a custom race appearance or move the battery case etc.. to allow for lower bodies to be mounted. Looking at mine, I'd guess that we'll have problems with the corvettes, camaro's and jag's that have a cab placed farther to the middle. A more cab foreward design might have the cab placed directly over the front of the ESC.
What about rotating the ESC backwards? SO the step down which faces the rear in a stock setup becomes foreward?

My concern with a 39 Chevy Delivery Wagon is the wheel base. Its going to be close with the DRR on it's shortest setting. Its a good idea to get a list of Ok models. Maybe it could be a sticky or FAQ.

I've gone for a cheap internal antennea and think that's the way to go when building scale bodies. Nothing to ruin the illusion of 1:1 scale than having a 20foot antennea sticking out your windshield. :-) I temporary used cardboard and double sided tape which allows good range. My permanent mod will be to run the wire through clear rubber tubing and keep it under the body. I tried this with a 1:10 scale I modded for my nephew and it worked great. The only difficult thing was to remove the ESC cover and drill a hole for the tube to fit through.

The esc being too big was exactly the problem. The modifiied hood is an option, but I think it would end up being so large it would kill the "in scale" appearance. Moving the esc unit back is probably the best option. If you remove the rear dampener and then cut off the mounting tabs on the ESC cover you should be able slide the whole unit back. Then, use double sided tape to hold it on. Only drawbacks are that this wont work for the short chassis and you wont have a rear dampener.

Even still.. Modding the placement of the esc or even just taking it out of the case and shrink wrap it is not that big of a deal.. I think it is worth getting a body like the one in the picture above.. Please keep us updated 2000redrider!
