Newbie Question On Dead Car

Hi All! I'm fairly new (only a few hours) to the whole bit car scene.. but I'm finding it extremely interesting... I only wish I had a car that worked!

I'm going to go check Walgreens for those $9.99 clones I saw in another thread.. but that's actually what my question is..

I have a Fit Racer clone.. is it right to call it a Bit Char-G clone? or what is its appropriate name?

Anyway, I was reading a lot of the forums and such about mods etc before I actually put batteries in my car charger :) Long story short, when I tried to use it, it wouldn't go... after an hour or two tinkering with it... I found the strangest thing happening...

If I hold my hand on or near the wired antennae (the one attached to the car) and use the remote, while the car is attached to the remote.. it works..

If I touch the metal telescopic antennae while holding the insulate car anntane in my hand, the car stops responding... strangest thing, and I haven't seen anything describing this..

After looking around the PCB I decided to take a high res picture of it to see if I could see anything, and I think one of the components may be burnt out on the PCB.. only I'm not sure if its just SUPPOSED to be weird looking.. can anyone tell me if this is normal?

If the picture doesn't show, they are also at http://www.centrahost.net/rc

There's also a good detailed shot of the whole PCB backside... or frontside? one of the side.. :)

I really appreciate any help you guys can offer! :) Thanks in advance..

rub your finger across the top of that component( make sure you are static free, touch something metal before you do this) after rubbing if you have what looks like black soot on your hand then its definetly cooked. If not then im not really able to trouble shoot from a pic.

Your clone's PCB looks like it was hand-soldered by a 5 year old retarded chimp.

Did you mean you resent that remark, or do you actually resemble a retarded chimp?

LOL.. yeah the solder job on some of those components didn't look too good.. I saw a mod about the crip cap on this board, it said it was supposed to look hand soldered (btw, should I remove that?)

I rubbed my finger along the component, but it seems the component is coated in some kind of... something.. like hard plastic.. In the pic it looks like there's a break in the component almost, but you can't feel a thing because of the hard plastic covering..

Does anyone know what that component is for? Could I possible buy a replacement?

BTW Also, I can mod this car (if I get it working or buy another) right? Using all the regular bit char mods? Like the battery, motor and magnet for steering mod?

I hope I can.. I guess I should have asked first cause I already ordered a 3.0 motor and the rare earth magnets hehe

You can totally mod that thing up like a regular bit. My advice would be to buy another car and use the one you have for a parts shop. Everybody should have at least 5 or more cars in their collection....

5 or more cars well shiz I have 1 and I've been working on it daily, trying to make it better, testing it, enjoying it, fixing problems, etc. Right now I have to fix one of those stupid brittle steering wires, you know, the ones that are right in your #$%^ing way when you try to change the battery? The unnecessarily thin things that can be broken and are a huge pain in the ass to fix? Yeah, thats my current project.
