Booster & 4-Band Experience

Booster Car & 4-Band TX Experience

A lot of people are asking what The 2 speed Booster Cars are and how dose it work.
Booster Cars (also known as 2 speed) are available as a kit called the "booster kits" @27,35,45.&57mhz and currently (11/22/2002) the "Nissan 350z"@57mhz and the "Automodellista Set"@27mhz. If you Already Have a Bit car and want to upgrade, you can get the "booster kits" which includes: 2 Speed Chassis, 2.2 motor, 9.86:1 gear axle, Medium tires, and a clear Skyline Body.
These sets do not come with the controller. You have to get TOMY's 4-band controller. The regular controllers will not work with the booster chassis unless it's the one that came with the Nissan 350z and Automodellista.

The 4-band controller has a function button on the top-right that activates the second speed. This is not NOS or Turbo and has nothing to do with it and has nothing to do with Zipzaps NOS/ Turbo motor either .

From my experience with the booster chassis is that on my 2.2 motor, if I don't have the button pressed, it runs a little bit faster than a 1.0 motor but with less torque (perhaps 1.2 or something . . . just guessing). I compared it by using a 1.0 on my NSX and a 2.2 on the Automodellista (same grearing). But when the button is pressed, it runs more like a 2.6 (although my 2.6 runs slower, I think I have a crappy 2.6. I will test again when I get a new 2.6). It's definitely Faster tha a 2.2 on a non booster car ( I compared it to my AE86 Trueno with a 2.2 & same gear)

About the 4-band controller: There is a switch in the back that has 3 settings.
B = booster chassis compatible ( 1st speed and when function button is pressed, 2nd speed)
C = always in 2nd speed mode
A= compatible with single speed (non-booster) chassis

I have read in some posts that It dose not work with older cars that don¡¦t have a "4-Band" sticker in the box. The oldest car I have is the AE86 Sprinter Trueno (G-09) and it "dose not" have a 4-band sticker on the box. But I tested that it works just fine with the AE86 with the 4-band controller in MODE C. (It even works fine with my OEM LXX chassis @27mhz). Other Models older than that (G-01 to G-08) I have not tested.

I hope this helps some of the questions I see.

If there is a mistake let me know

The boost controller definitely does not work on the blue Skyline. I tried using it with no luck with the switch in either of those positions.

I'm not sure if they ever revised the circuit boards later in the manufacturing. The G-03 Blue Skyline is one of the first ones. If that is the case then I'm assuming G-01 to G-04 dose not work ...unless they revised the boards.

And also since it's compatible with my G-09, i'm assuming it will work with kits made after that. ( correct me if that is not the case)

How about the rx-7's and the Celica's? Anyone?

I have a newer S2000 with a silver body, and there is a sticker on the box that says that it's 4-ch capable. They did make a production run change to accomodate the new controllers. That is probably the reason why the older bits disappeared for awhile.

Can somebody please make the differentiation between 4 band, and 4 channel for me?

Which one is it?

If it's a 4 band controller, then it lets you control cars that are 27, 35, 49, and 57 mhz.

If it's a 4 channel controller, then it lets you have the foward/back, left/right, and 1st/2nd speed, and one other channel.

I'm just a bit confused.

Sorry for the confusion. The controllers are all 2-ch. Except for the boost controllers where you can technically call it a 3 channel. When you can select the frequencies, you can call them 4-band.

I have a G-03 (skyline) which has the rev 5 pcb, does anyone know if the 4-band controller will work with it? The box doesn't have any 4-band logo on but my G-05 does.

As I mentioned my oldest BIT is the G-09 Trueno @27mhz. The Revision number under the chassis PCB is REV4 and on the stock controller is REV3. My Box dose not have a 4-band logo. I am not sure about the G-03, but it did not work on the one alpha1 tested. My white skyline is a Microsizer@49mhz and not a G-04 Bit.
