engaging and disengaging clutch stuff..
mm...i was sitting on the bus today and i thought of new fun thing to do...You might wanna go get your bit for reference..it makes perfect sense to me, but you might get confused.
Wouldn't it be fun to be able to get up to top speed, and then pop the clutch out and coast around turns, and then put it back in, and then accelerate out of the turn?
I think i know how to make it work...
If you take a look at a bit chassis with all the gears and motor in, notice the space directly behind the step down gear- being taken up by the motor clip/heat sink thing. This would need to be taken out and the motor would have to be secured some other way.
now, the step down gear is "sandwiched" between the axle gear and a wall of the chassis. What if that section of the chassis wall was moved in a little bit, (possibly made thinner too)? The step down gear would slide back, disengaging it from the axle gear. Bam...free wheeling.
but...how to make it do that?
I thought about how the steering works, with an elecromagnetic setup. What if you put a magnetic ring around the back of the step down gear, and fitted a little (smaller than the steering one) magnetic coil around the bar that the gear is sliding across? Run a current through it, and the gear pulls back. Turn off the current, and 2 tiny coil springs (something like the QFM springs, maybe even smaller) would push the gear back in place.
Now..the electronics of all of this. I have no idea. It would make the most sense to assign the boost button to pop the gear out, but i dont know even where to start on how to make it do that. I know there are some smart electronics people here, who can figure out where in the pcb board i would have to work, or what to build to make it work.
whew long post.
I really hope i get to try this someday...i need help though.

Before you get to the electronics of it...
How are you going to keep the idler gear in sync with the pinion, so when you re-engage the "clutch" the gear teeth don't start flying around inside the car?

Wow, very cool idea! It would almost be like proportionality, as you could just pull the clutch to slow down a little round the corner, then drop it back in for full speed up the straight. You should certainly try this!

yes...well i think i will ask TheFanMan if i can try to cut up an old dead chassis for practice, because if i screw up on a good bit, thats it...no fixing. I Still need to find out how to activate the magnet...what part of the PCB is controlled by the boost button on a boost car ect...
also...i would need a very small and strong ring magnet to glue on to the back of the step down...are those Rare Earth magnets made any smaller than 1/8"?

I figured it out
I figured out how to do this a simpler way, I was messing around, and extended the axle, and made it a little bit skinnyer, when I put it in the gears wern't working, but I just pushed the axle toward the gear, so it went into the gears, then when I took a left turn, the axle slipped out, and it started to go sideways, then when I turned the other way, and hit the accelerator, the gears slid back in, it's pretty fun actually, can drift excellet, the only set backs are that it only happens when you turn left, and it my have some wearing on the gears ( not sure ) but, it is very fun, and simple to make.

If it was possible to get a pinion gear that was angled, it would be easy.
When the motor is running it would push the gear towards the wheel, and when car starts to slow down, the gear would slip back, away from the wheel's gear.
Edit: Thinking about it, there would be no reverse.

If there is no reverse, the u could wire the reverse wires from the pcb to an electromagnet thing to disengage the gear when u press reverse.
OR U COULD get rid of reverse,and somehow make ur own brake!!!!!

You could also make the boost(Action) button on a 2-speed or wild-char-g control the clutch!

I thought of an idea 2 make ur own clone booster.
Get 2 pcbs of different frequencies, wire them up on 1 bit, put a few resistors on one ofe the pcbs forward and backward wires,
Integrate the 2 controllers into 1, and
Walah!
1 clone booster!

Just noticed my ZipZap's rear axle is loose and falls of the gear, and grinds when i slam it in reverse. All i need to do is put a spring on somehow and a magnet and coil to pull it up. Not much room, though.

guys, there is a simple solution to this, just make a mini one way for the rear axle, it would serve 2 purposes: it would do the cost thing when you let off the throttle and it would have a diff. you can make one out of little gears or buy some one way bearings.
