Motors
I know how to build an electric motor, and I have been thinking about building a custom one that is larger and tourqier (if that's a word) in the motor area of my ZZ. There's really a lot of space that can be used back there if magnets are tucked away in the corners. But before I even get into that, I decided to open up my "control" (read: why do they even make these) motor.
It's simple enough. The stationary frame magnet is on the inside however. So, I got to thinking, what if I just wrap a different wire or different amount of wire around the axle? Anyone know the effects of this? I tried, but because it's so small, I was having a hard time getting just right size coil and not making it too thick so it fits around the magnet but still within the case without rubbing anything. It's going to be close to impossible to actually do, but I figured maybe I'd get lucky. But rather than getting lucky on crappy design and finding that I spent hours making a "very control motor," I thought I'd seek help.
So rather than screwing around more, I thought I'd ask here. Anyone know what factors affect the torque and speed of these wee motors? Or have any links? Thanks in advance!

Re-wrapping motors used to be pretty common in the old days of 1/24 slot cars. but man, these motors are so tiny, I don't see how you could get much more than what's already in them. I'm pretty sure (although I could be wrong) that that is the way they are boosting the RPMs and varying the motors while keeping the same size casing. Just some thoughts.....hope it helps.

I'm thinking 30 guage might be about the thickest that will fit, but I don't know if that's too thick for an optimum electomagnet or not. That's where my problem lies.

it depends on how many winds you have on the motor. if it has less winds it will be faster more winds will be slower. re wrapping the motor would make it faster especialy if you were to wind it tight and close together thats why in 1/10th scale rc a hand wound motor of the same turns as a machine wound would cost alot more because it has more power.

Don't wanna break anyones bubble here but has anyone taken a look inside one of these things? I have a hard time getting the motor back together without bending the tiny contacts. the wires form a cylinder around the stationary magnet in the middle of the motor and overlap with each other...SO unless you know about nanobasketweaving and have tiny fingers I don't see this going anywhere...Just my two cents!

Don't forget the PCB mod too, ZZ pcb got less torque.
