Micro RC Soccer "Carball" Ruleset
Hi,
My racing group has come up with a draft of some "official" rules for one of our events, which is really soccer with micro rc cars, but which we are calling "Carball." Comments on the ruleset are invited.

Very cool and looks easy to make. The black part looks like pipe insulation What did you use for the white part of the walls?. Also, where did you get the goals from?
You might want to consider a rule about allowable mods. Can players put a snow plow (or some other physical mod that would give them an advantage over the stock bodies) on the front or back of their bits? Of course, some bodies are definitely better than others for this game.

Carball
To answer the questions posed:
1. ZipZaps are ineligible because in our experience, due to their extra weight, they can easily push or bash bit char g's or clones around. While this might not be a huge advantage in a race, it does give an extreme advantage in a contact game like Carball, where half of the fun is bashing cars together. Since there are only two ZipZap frequencies, not all players could have them, so only certain players would get that unfair advantage. Since everyone in our racing group also has at least one bit char g or clone, we just chose to eliminate zipzaps. A different rule would be to allow only one zipzap per side, but that is not what we decided.
2. the edge of our carball arena is, in fact, foam pipe insulation. I bought the self adhesive kind. The white strip is simply a piece of poster board cut into two and a half inch strips. I just slid the strip into the open end of the pipe insulation, pulled off the adhesive backing, and -- viola -- the poster board was solidly held in place in the groove of the pipe insulation. We then just used masking tape to tape down the edge of the white poster board, which in turn held the pipe insulation down. Very simple, really. In addition, during initial playtesting, we had a big problem with the ball getting stuck in the corners and along the edges. With this design, the white poster board tends to act as a ramp, which pushes the ball back into play using gravity.
3. The goals were picked up at ****'s sporting goods -- a chain we have here around Pittsburgh. I don't know if ****s is all around the country, but there are lots of them around here. It is a big chain with all kinds of sporting goods, equipment, and apparell. The goals were from some little novelty tabletop hockey sets we found ($10 each) that had a plastic goal, a cardboard goalie, two plastic hockey sticks and two plastic pucks in them. We scrapped the rest of the junk, but the plastic goals (with suction cups to hold them down) were the perfect size for Carball. We also picked up a couple different balls at ****s to see which worked best, and we found that a Franklin plastic street hockey ball was the best fit with the cars, weight, and "rollability" we were looking for.
Happy Carballing!!
Rex Racer.

sporting goods store
hehe. I didn't realize that the profanity filter would pick up the name of the sporting goods store in the post above. Anyway, the name of the store is a shortened form of "Richard's". In other words --- "Dix" spelled another way.

rex racer your site and ideas are great and have motivated me to try out some "carball". Keep up the great site (now included in my favorites) and ideas your racing crew shows theres alot more fun with micro rc's than chasing the family dog/cat.
