A question about batteries.

I have a few questions on how batteries work with electric motors. Correct me if my understanding of this is wrong.

When wiring batteries in series it doubles your voltage thus giving you more power to the motor?

And if you wire batteries in parallel you double the amount of milli-amps which would give you longer running times?

I want to understand all of this before I jump in with a mod project and if I understand this correctly I have an idea that I want to try out. It won't be ground breaking, just something simple and most likely has been done before.

If there is anything else I should know about how batteries work please let me know.

I'm oversimplifying it, but...

Batteries in SERIES:
- You add the voltages of the batteries
- Higher voltage = higher RPMs from the motor

Batteries in Parallel:
- You add the capacity (maH) of the batteries
- Higher capacity = longer runtimes

Also, there's been a lot of experimentation with using Lithium Polymer (aka Lipo and LiPoly) batteries. Lipo offers close to the same capacity, but 3x the voltage.

I've got these batteries on order to test how well they'll work in my Bits and ZipZaps:

Thanks Nam, I understand that there are other factors involved, but that clears alot of things up for me.

I understand the differences between NiCd, NiMh and LiPo's now. I just needed those things clarifed for me.

There should be a sticky thread somewhere on here about battery basics (even if it is just a link to the information) for us newbies.

I'm having so much fun learning all this. Thanks for being so patient with me.
