alternate four wheel steering concept
One common thread I seem to notice in here a LOT is the 4 wheel steering idea. Most everyone has been thinking of doing it straight with the 2 steering racks and all that.
Anybody else ever watch people doing construction and see the articulated bucket loaders? 4 wheel drive, highly maneuverable, bend in center, usually yellow and have a big old bucket on the front. They use 2 straight axles, and the driveshaft (if equipped) would use U-joints to compensate for the articulation.
Ok, so that means we could leave the motor in the rear, move the bevel gears so the driveshaft can be centered, cut driveshaft put dogbone u-joints from front into that, straight axle for front, move the steering setup to the middle (outboard for more leverage?). PCB mounting will have to be modified, and probably many other things I'm ignoring.
Obvious downsides. Can't use straight body, have to use less sticky tires, might not have strong enough steering, might get freaky handling...
Oh yeah, one last thing. This is a total BS idea, I don't have a ZZ-M yet, just wanted to toss out something which seems to have been overlooked. If somebody wants to try and make it work, then have at it.
