What's your favorite battery setup?

I started this thread because i wanted to hear other's opinions on the pros and cons of different battery setups.

Personally i have used 4,5,6,7, and 8 cell battery setups. I haven't tried lithium ions yet so some input would definately be appreciated.

ok this is what i think(using tight turns,AWD,soft slicks,Medium suspension all around, s/b magnets, ball-bearing can, ~37k motor)
-4 cells is good when it comes to a smooth surface in handling, on pavement it is incredibly unstable. top speed and accell are bad
-5 cell with battery behind back bumper is faster and the handling might be a little worse
-6 cell with batteries behind back bumper-accellaration is best with torque and so is top speed. Handling is shoddy, front end really loosens with increased top speed and flips over sometimes.
-7 cell has so much torque that the car can't really put it to the ground, top speed i believe suffers a bit and handling is suprisingly pleasent. the added weight really added some stability on concrete. The car when on full throttle and turn will sometimes drift a bit into a turn not lossing a lot of speed when taking high speed turns.
-8 cell handling is a little bit like 7 cell setup but more drifty in fact tires can't put down the torque to the ground. too much tire spin on turns. I really didn't take the time to change the setup to make the handling better but i believe its just too heavy. CHECK THIS OUT so much darn torque that it ripped my crazy glued tires right off the rims! But i see hardly any top speed and accell is terrible.

In conclusion-6 cell for accel and top speed and 7 cell for handling

Dude - the Li-Ions rock...think of the weight savings alone.

And, where the hell did you fit all of those batteries?????

The Li-Ions do have good power and are hard to describe until you run them...they absolutely kick azz...

If he had 8 cells, he didn't have a body on it...it was just for the hell of it...

fit extra cells

rssjib i did have the body and
-first off i had the roomiest body the toyota supra
-I used two-2 cell packs from a junk xmod that i had laying around
-I mounted one pack behind the back bumper and another right on top of the chassis under the body(velcro helps, no heat sink guys).
-i used one of those yellow bushings to raise the body a few mms on the back body clip
tada-8 cell...oh i also had fets so the motor I was using wouldn't burn da stock ones

i ditched that setup though...like i said before it is too heavy and too much torque for the grip of the tires
I also eventually zapped the antenna with the mess of wires and when i took out the pcb some of the leads were like burnt and hanging off of the board i guess from the increased votage...the funny thing is that everything worked on the board! even with little burnt pieces hanging off.

whats the most number of cells you can run with stock FETs?

-In general i wouldn't recommend sticking 7-8 cells to your xmod because the fets might not burn with a low current draw motor but the board might fry because of the high voltage...my xmod board didn't fry enough to stop operation but i guess it depends on your luck of the quality of the board you get.
-To answer your question It really depends on the motor...a stage 1 doesn't draw much current so 7-8 cells would probably run good...a stage 2 would run 6 cells safely...with four cells i run a 40T armature with spinbrush mags and bb can on stock fets
-the stock fets can handle somewhere in the vicinity of 2.5-3 amps i think...with ohms law you can find out how much current a motor draws if you have the resitance and voltage...so if you have a custom motor be careful...i wouldn't run a hybrid motor on 6 cells for more than 5 minutes and wouldn't even run it with 7-8 cells just to be safe.
