My motor

I was thinking about building a motor, but I thought....couldn't I just switch the pinions and bevel gears between the 9 tooth S2 and 11 tooth S2 RS engines? Would this be possible? If not, how would I go about increasing the torque on the 11 tooth motor, because I want it's speed, but the 9 tooth's accel....

Put down the pinions and step away from the magnets. All stage 2 motors are EQUAL. The only reason one is torquier or one is speedier than the other is because of the gear ratio of the 9 tooth vs the 10 tooth.

O.K. thanx.....what would I have to do to increase the torque of the 11 tooth motor? I know that the magnets would change it, but they also decrease speed though. I want the most torque gain wiht less speed loss. I've heard of people using the crest spinbrush motor and saying it was a pretty good motor, and that the magnets in it would give you more torque. Would just switching the magnets with the ones form the spinbrush increase the torque any?

O.K. I'm goin to make the SB motor, but what pinion should I use? I don't know how much torque or speed it has, so I don't know which one I should use. I want lots of speed, but alos a good amount of torque ( I don't want to have to wait 2 minutes for my car to get up to speed ). I don't care if the others beat my off the line, I just want to be able to reach some where near top speed in about 10-15 feet. Which one should I use?

9 tooth (red) or 10 tooth (yellow) The 9 tooth will give you slightly better acceleration, but the 10 tooth will give you better speed.

umm from what i understand your trying to run a straight sb motor? i dont think that will work..the armature is to short

if you want to increase torque in your stage 2 motor get neo magnets and a ball-bearing can and endbell

with that combination the top speed stays the same but the torque is jacked

for ten bucks plus s/h cheapest probably online you can get these at www.minizworkshop.com

O.K> never mind now...I'm just goin to put the SB magnets in my 10 tooth (yellow) S2 engine. So now I have a SB Hybrid, but I want to increase the speed abit. Un-winding a couple of winds would increase it right? I was thinking of undoin about 3 on each thing, and yes, I'm using the S2 armature, not the SB...

And, I want to use the stock can, that way it'll look stock, even when you pull off the body....

actually you can run a SB motor straight if you want, im doing it now. Just solder the caps from one motor to it. I am running a 10 tooth that i had. it's a little smaller than the metal one, so i am using a red bevel gear to compensate. it runs well, the arm is a bit short, but the car doesn't put enough load on the motor to matter if the pinion isn't on all the way. the S2 hybrid is supposed to be better, the SB is easier...and torqier...its up to you.

O.K. kewl, but I'm gonna do the SB Hybrid after all. I was making it last night, but I poped a brush off, so my dad is goin to unsolder all the wires, and take off the brushes and stuff today, and then I'll switch the magnets, and if I can, I'll undo a couple of winds. Then, I'll put it all back together, solder the wires back on, and then go and have fun! I might also do a 5/6 cell mod, but I have to find a place to put the extra cell. I think it'll be hard with a vette body!

K. I did the SB Hybrid motor, and it seems O.K., but now I'm experimenting with the SB armarture. Does anyone know how many wind are on it? I wanted to take it down to about 45....I've read in another post that it has 70, btu I don't think that's right. if it is, then unwinding it to 45 will make it alot faster, but no torque!

yes, actually, it does have 70 turns. i've never successfully rewound one, so i don't know what results 45 will give.

What motor modifications require more current, and thus require fets?

Is changing the magnets going to affect current usage?

Nope. changin mags will not increase current, so you're fine with basically any magnets for a 130 can, but the # of winds affects currents. Most people say don't go under 45 for stock FETs, but to be on the safe side, i would stick with 50 or above.....

BTW- How many winds are on the S2? I've hear 50, 55, 45, 49, and some other numbers, and I'm not sure which one is right. i would think it'd be 50, but I'm not certain. Anyone know?
