Panther Remote: Dual Cell
I keep hearing you need a custom charger for a dual cell car, with 4 AA's. I have a panther clone remote, and it requires 4 AA's. Is 2 charges on this likely to work or do I still need to build a custom charger?

2 charges will only provide more run time on a single cell, not more voltage. the 4 AA cells are there because the transmitter has circuitry that requires more voltage. All you need to do is cut off the charge base(the thing your car clips to while charging) and buy a 4 AA cell holder from radioshack. hook them up with a switch so you can shut it off. now that this charger has no timer circuit, you will have to watch the batteries(charge for no more than 2-3 minutes) while they charge to make sure they don't blow up or melt(it does happen when overcharged!!!). Have fun!!!!!

Take your multi-meter and check the voltage at the charge pad. 3 charger batteries, 4.5v is your target for a dual cell. 4 batteries, 6v would be better suited to charging a triple celled car.
You should be able to modify the charge circuit so that it has the correct number of batteries, and maintains the charge timer. Snip and solder a bit.
I have a couple clones that came stock with dual cells, and the controllers are set up already to charge them. That's the easiest way.
