project idea
So i just picked up a couple of ZZ SEs this weekend (one for me and one for my GF) I got the 2F2F body upgrades (pink convertable for the girl) and the initial D upgrade kit. I took the lights out of one of the initial D bodies and put them in the pink body....it doesnt clip in any more, but she is happy enough with it, it looks pretty good, event though it has a high backend.
So I wanna do a crazy modded ZZ now...here is my plan, and some questions.
I wanna build a monster truck ZZ Se. here are the steps i forsee:
1) the wheels, i will have to dig through a toy storeand get some wheeps around the size of the lego wheel mod, but hopefully better looking, and maybe rubber...anyone come across anything like this? and has anyone put large wheels on the SE, i wanted to know if the steering would be a problem?
2) multi battery...With the frame raised to accomidate the bigger wheels, i should have plenty of space to put 3 or so batts on top of the PCB...so for power (i will get to why in a minute) should i wire the batts in parallel, or serial? and where can i get the batts? my local ratShack is kinda limited on its supplies...i dont even think they carry LEDs anymore..
3) lights...i wanna replace the reverse lights with white LEDs, and have a second set of lights (running of its own battery) with the original reds, + some blue driving lights in the front so it will always have the rear red lights, and driving lights on, and when you reverse the new white reverse lights come on, and when you go forward the standard head lights come on...anyone know a good place online to order this leds (once again my local ratshack sucks)
4) here is the real biggie....dual motors...it seems to me that with the batteries moved above the PCB i could mod the chassis to accomidate a second motor in front of the gear....to power these i assume i will need to do the mosfet mod (where can i get the new resistors for this?) if two motors is not possable, i may try to use a pager buzz motor (i have a couple of old pagers in my closet) if i can power them...but once again this seems like it would require the mosfet mod....
my final question is what motor(s) / gears should i use for maximum torque? not so much worried about top speed (that will be the next project) more just wanna get it to crawl over stuff.
thanks for any help....also is there a good over view of the mosfet mod for the SEs ? their PCbs are all black so its kinda hard to make out what is what....
thanks

YOU can go to www.electricgoldmine.com i get the mag but anyways they have leds motors u name it if it goes on a pc board they have it. O yea and batteries to. I all ready no that if the wheels are too heavy it wont work like the lego ones i tryed it and the lego wheels are too wide too so i no u will have trouble finding other ones. Buuut...u can make a monster truck with a reg ZZ by changing the coils and i think the magnet PLEASE find out how to do it with a reg ZZ but i cant get it. O yea and about the electricgoldmine u may be able to find a motor for the steering on the Se. for the mosfet u will find resistors at the electric goldmine. For the motors u should use zz motors and a green gear it will have enuf torque after the mosfet ino cause when i did the lego wheels on my ZZ w/out a mosfet i wus good. U can get a good topspeed with out loseing too much torque i think u should do series with two cells.
send me a picture of your raised body. i hope i helped

well i got some wheels from a "superblox" kit (lego knock off), sprayed them "chromer" and added spacers to the wheels on the ZZ...i then hot glued the new wheels on. it works...well...it moves...the wheels are a little off center, so i got in touch with a guy who modified his char-g and he actually used larger pins for holding the wheels in, and a small spacer between the zz wheel gears (or knuckles on the front) and where the wheel actually started.
i got a second motor in it working too, but i just used tin foil + electrical tape, and it would run (quite well) for like two feet...then the motor would slip out (i had to remove the thing that held the single motor in place to make room for a second motor). so now i need to engineer some kind of bracket to hold both motors in place.
q: i have read with the bit char-gs you have to build your own charger if you do a multi-cell battery mod, is this also the case with the ZZs ? i was thinking about building one anyways because with the new wheels its a little aqward to get the car to fit on the SE charger.
thanks for your help

where do u get this superblox lego thing and what do u use for the spacers no im pretty sure that u dont need to build a new charger

I got the super blox kit from a rite-aid around the corner...I actually when to walmart and target and got a bunch of different little toys, superblox seemed the best, but i think the size just make is so i need to space the wheels way too far out. I have a couple of monster machines with the big back wheels, i think i am going to use 4 of the back wheels from those, and make a more subtle mod, and then just concentrate on dual motors + multi batteries.
for spacers i just used a pen which i cut up (about 1/4" spacer on each wheel).
from what i have read on another message board i do need to make a new charger if i wanna do multi batteries...anyone have more info on this?
