Yes, if it is a loud beeping sound. It is your car, it is perfectly normal, its the servo.

I guess there is no harm done. As long as it runs how it should, then it is alright.

Jebus, that sound is normal for an Xmod. The Xmod's steering servo isn't truely proportional. Most (actually, nearly all) hobby grade RC cars use a servo with say 45 degrees of travel. Those 45 degrees will be divided an infinite number of times. On an Xmod, that 45 degrees is divided 16 times. Every time you hit one of these 16 positions, you hear it click, so it sounds like it's grinding, but its not.

well it's not infinite although it feels that way, it's either 512 (typical) or 1024. our xmods won't really turn the wheels 45 degrees, it's a little less than that, haven't measured it but just by eyeballing it, it's not 45 degrees

HEY!
THE SE ZIPS HAVE THE SAME SOUND! exept the zip steering
servo is just a zip motor and a gear that is connected to the wheels possibly... R.S is incorperating the same technology in
their cars im not sure how a normal steering servo works but
i think its either a magnet or a motor that is DIRECTLY linked
to the wheels...

I hit a wall really hard w/o the body.
Not it doesn't turn well when in motion.
Help! If it's a simple easy fix, I can do it.
I just got it today, so I on't hesitate to return it.

Your best bet might be to just go ahead and return it to be safe. You probably stripped the servo gears. Does it turn at all when you hold it in the air? Be a little more specific about what it is doing.

Should I get NiMH or NiCD or whatever? I don't get what the differences are. What is best for Xmods?
