If xmods deliver on performance comparable to an old MR-01 mini-z chassis, they win in my opinon for these reasons:

Price: Both of car and hopups.

Availablility of modifications at a convenient location, i.e. the mall: Because of the the internet, local hobby shops in my area carry very little stock in something unless it sells. Mini-z mods are available, but xmod hop ups are for the most part, comparably less expensive compared to mini-z's.

From a performance standpoint, I do not know yet, not having tested my xmod, but I can stand a $50.00 hobby (or semi-hobby) grade car with slightly less performance that will be enthusiastically supported, and more easily accessible than a performance car for $100.00 more not counting hopups. The quality of the xmod hopups is important too. If they suck, so goes the car....

Lastly,

With the xmods, I'm more likely to run and enjoy the car because I'm less concerned with breaking it. If I do, I'll take a 5 minute run to the mall and I'll buy another one for $50.00 (about the cost of 2 mini-z bodies!)...

Just some thoughts from my camp.
