Lightbulb Steering adjustment addendum

Just found out that you can adjust the steering using the alignment screw on the bottom of the chassis without turning the car off and on. Here's how:

Turn the car over and press the throttle.

With your finger on the throttle so that the motor is revving, turn the alignment screw with the adjustment screwdriver. The fronts will adjust while you screw (so to speak!) so you don't have to micro adjust by turning the car off and on.

There seems to be (as others have noted) right turn sensitivity. Has anyone tried removing the flat gear and then centering the car and controller steering trims so that the servo turns an equal amount in either direction, THEN re-assemble with the flat gear and wheels centered? Just a thought that I might try. Wanted to see if anyone else has thought of that...

Thanks. I'm going to try the flat gear adjustment later tonight or tomorrow....
I'll post my results as soon as possible... Unless someone else beats me to it...

Yeah, I would like to hear if you have good results. My SE is more sensitive to the right as well, makes it hard to do a slight turn to the right.

Well I tried it. removed the wheels, tires and the flat gear, then I played with both car and transmitter until I felt I had equal "throw" of the servo pinion gear in both directions and there was no servo stutter. Then I replaced the flat gear (Centered of course as best as I could), reassembled the car, and fine tuned with the car adjustment screw...

... No difference in sensitivty at all. Same thing. When turning right the car is more responsive (2 steps of steering) when turning left, less responsive, (3 to 4 steps)...This leads me to believe it might be a controller issue... Perhaps I'll break that open and see if I can adjust the steering wheel potentiometer... I'm debating that one though.

Odd thing... At top speed, steering seems even in both directions. Could it be that this is by design to make up for torque steering that happens at speed? I doubt it, but I thought I'd just put that out there....

I was wondering if it was a controller issue as well. Maybe some are better than others? Anyone else see the same thing, more sensitive steering to the right?

Yep mine has that issue.

Here's what I noticed, because that stuttery thing got on my nerves. It seem to do the stuttery thing more when I turn the steering trim to the right. I think it is operating correctly to the left, but instead of doing the smaller steps to the right it just stuttering, until you crank the wheel farher.

Personally I think it's a defect in the design, and that really bugs me.

Based upon my recent experiences, guys, I think the steering problem everyone has been experiencing is a production defect with the first run of the Savannah's. The design is ok, but the cars are defective. I purchased an RX7 that's working perfectly, (same findings as Bad Company with his RX7, tight steering in both directions, but different steps HOWEVER under speed it feels the same both right and left...), however I couldn't get my Savannah dialed in at all. I purchased the RX7 at my local RS and when I found out how superior the steering was, and promptly re-boxed the old Savannah chassis with the new RX7 body and exchanged it for another new RX7. Now I have 2 RX7 chassis' and both body styles.

In my current opinion, aside from the body lowering, These cars (when not defective) are EXCELLENT. Nice Job RS.

Anyone with a Savannah and defective steering should contact RS for a refund or exchange, or take matters into their own hands and do what I did.

Hopefully they've worked out the production defects and these things will only get better.
