I have made a rug runner and can tell you the only way I can see it being non permanent is if when your done you just break the rims off the knuckles.

I think I see what you mean. You want to attach the bigger wheels to the hubcaps of a Zip so you can pop em on and off when you like. This may be possible. You would still need to use Zip tires to hold the hubcaps on, but they would be hidden behind the bigger wheels. Heck, try it. Take some Stomper wheels or something similar and shave any protrutions off the back. Pick a flattish kind of hubcap, like the gold ones (there is a similar silver one like these too) and super glue the back of the bigger wheel to the front of the hubcap. Let it dry really good before you stick it onto the Zip rim. Put a tire on the rim, and squeeze the wheel with a hubcap onto the rim as you work the tire onto the hubcap to hold it in place. You will have to put the tire on first as you won't be able to stretch it over the bigger tires once you have them in place and the hubcap is seated in the Zip rim. I'm not sure if this will hold the bigger tire on, especially when you turn. But if the hubcaps fit nice and tight and the tire is in place well to hold it there, it just might work. The best rugrunner I have made to date is made out of one of the AwesomeRC cars. I put Zip wheels all around and a MW gearbox on the back and it is just unreal in how well it can handle rough terrain. This isn't the red one. It's a different one that I haven't posted yet. Stupid scanner. I've found Zips have some trouble with turning big tires on the front. But, a dual cell mod can make that steering much snappier . You could try something sticky to help hold the hubcap in place too. Like poster gum or maybe double sided tape cut to fit with the holes cut out to accept the pins of the hubcap.

Taking them off is a matter of pulling really hard .
I think I already went over how to put them on.
Protrusions are anything sticking out the back that doesn't allow the back of the big wheels to be flat so they will accept the hubcaps nice and flush. Clearing the sides is a whole other animal. You'll either need to mod a body by shaving the wheel wells or make one that rides very high on the chassis to allow freedom of movement for the wheels. Use your imagination. Some of this stuff is common sense.
