Charging On Pit Row
does anyone think that is would be possible to make pit row charging? you drive to a spot and the charger it in the road and you stop get your charge and go i would think you can with the stand alone charger.just make a platform where you can pull over a speed bump box so the car would have to sit in the middle that would make a cool endurance race and you only make 2 of them or one so you would have to plan your pit stop. even make a dirt track but just a thought

that would be interesting!!
but not sure if it can be done, since we have to push the car to snap on to the little metal thingys...
but would like to see it done

pit row charging should be easy!!
here is my idea
correct, the bit has indented holes for contacts to go into, however, you could very easily solder some small metal piece into the hole that lowers it down possibly something curved ( <--that being bottom curved toward racing surface. From there it is simple. Sorta like the contacts on a Tyco slot motorcycle if anyone has seen those. Next, either mount a bit charger section into the racing surface, or fashion a new one using the same type of contacts used on the car, but put some sprigs under them that compress easily, but are firm. Since the contacts on the car would not be touching the racing surface, and the ones on the charger would be spring loaded, if you space them just right from each other, you could drive right up on the contacts and they would make just enough contact.
Worrying about not enough contact??? Look at the posts on the charging terminal, like 5 sheets of paper thick of metal that ACTUALLY hits the terminals inside the car.
You might could even make it run off of A/C such as tyco tracks do, and elimate batteries.
I have tinkered with this idea over and over and come up with the same simple idea, I just haven't messed with it cos I keep getting new parts and bits to toy with.
People think this possibility is much more difficult than it is. The basics of it are, well, simple, just fitting the idea together is the time consuming part.
Just a thought, but, the simplest idea that is logical.
Any thoughts guys?

continuation of diagram
so in theory, your contacts on car/charger would look something like this:
s c
r u )( a
a r r
c f
ea

arrrghhh!!!
spacing didn't post right, the vertical words should say "race surface" on the left of the two curves and "car" on the right

You could also try some thin wire brushes/bristles (copper?) sticking up from the track, and a bumper for the car to hit when it is directly over them. You may have to back up before you pull out, or make the bump-stop small enough to drive over.
This way you wouldn't have to modify your bit so it would still work on the normal charger.

Yep, that's the way I would envision it. Someone really needs to try this! What would be extra cool is if upon hitting the bump, a timer starts so that you know when you've been in the pit for 45s!
