Insurance On My New Car!!!!!!!!!
I bought a 93 turbo eclipse for 600 dollars because it has some problems , so i bought a new head off ebay for 150 and new cam shafts and cam gears as well. I find out today that insurance on it is going to be $1100 EVERY 6 MONTHS!!!!!!!! and the other places I called told me that they wouldn't even put me on a policy because it is a turbo. Insurance is a ****ing bitch to pay and is going to ruin hot rodding cars. So now I guess Im going to sell it and by myself something I can afford, like a truck. Just outta curiousity is anyone else here getting raped by insurance companies?

SUX to be young I guess.
My GTI was $2500 a year when new in 98 when I was 22. Now I insure my 98 gti and 96 tahoe for 1100 per year total with full coverage(collision, liability, glass) for both. Turning 25, and getting married sure drops the rates.
You are not geting raped by insurance companies. they need to collect enough money in premiums to cover the layouts in claims and make enough of a profit to make i worth their while to do the whole thing. Statistically younger males with Turbo/gt/coupes are more likely to cost them money so they charge the most.
NJ is another story. . . I'm in NY and it's not much better here.
One quick tip for those living on your own, if you rent an apartment, get renters insurance through your auto insurance carrier. I got enough of a discount on my auto insurance that it nearly paid for the renters, so my apartment stuff(computer, RC collection ect) was covered for basically free.

Both my mother and I get really good rates through wawanesa, they have great prices and coverage. My mother has been in 3 wrecks(2 of them drunk drivers and 1 hit and run) recently that were not her fault and wawanesa covered them with out a problem. My '76 triumph spitfire that is a 2 door convertible is $1100 a year with full coverage and my 1990 ford ranger was the about same. Can't say enough good stuff about them, they are great.

Bingo!
Well considering noone has said that there driving record is flawless, I have to assume that you've all had a few accidents or tickets, and that is a huge factor when insurance companies determine your premium. Not just the car you drive.
There are also a lot of other factors that I'd bet not all of you know about that insurance companies look at when determining your premium. - Where you live (auto theft rate, traffic)
- Main use of car
- Number of drivers
- Length of drive to work
- Your credit history
- And many, many more....
