El Cheapo Mock Rollbar Lights
While building a Zip pickup body I discovered the perfect lights for my rollbar...old transistors! Just pulled them off an old circuit board that was lying around ( Tip: never throw anything electronic away when modding Zips). I suppose if you de-soldered them, you'd have little posts to mount them with, but I just glued them to the bar as the posts broke off when I busted them off the board.
Also, the little colored round transistors looked a lot like little nitrous cannisters..lol, but I don't have any car interiors to put them in.

hahaha, very original, nice thinking keep at it! we could use the large tx box(in the transmitter) as a toolbox that goes in the back of the truck if you tear apart the controller i dont have one open right now, but i think it would be about right.

thanks. The toolbox idea is great, but as silly as this sounds, I plan to put a wrecking crane, like a tow truck, back there...lol. The goal is to have a custom slammed wrecker complete with ground effects, and dual rear wheels. It's been fun but the body work is so tedious!

i now present to u a challenge if you're up to it. my challenge is to up the looks and function of you're lites what u should try is to drill out the transistors so u can put smt led's into them w/o any wires going into them from the out side so basically you drill from teh bottom for the wires and the front for the led. solder it up and you've got some wild boggin lights.
ps i may have to steal you're transistor idea in the near future. i'll call it steves transistor lights mod tho when referring to it.

Actually I already thought about it! The rollbar is made of hollow plastic tubing..the perfect place to run the wires. I've never put lights in a Zip though so it would be interesting. I figured I'd wait and see if the body comes out like a want it before I put too much work into it.
Any ideas for chrome exhaust pipes? After I put the blower in, I wanna run a few from the front and along the bottom ending right before the rear tires? I was thinking some thick wire would work, but the chrome finish is gonna be tough.

I wonder what's inside a transistor...goo? Once its hollowed out, a small piece of lexan over the front would finish it off....hmmmm.

That is looking pretty tight Steve! Did you make the body yourself? If so, nice! For the pipes, you can try using plain ole' solder rolls and straighten it out and bend as needed, plus it already has a chrome looke to it, just paint the middle black at the end.

The base body was the pink Motoworks body with blue flames (yes I bought it I'm ashamed to say lol). But it came with the wrecking crane and a set of grooved tires so I was inspired and never had any intentions of using it. Anyhow, I had to cut the bed off, right behind the windows to lengthen it about a 1/4" to fit the Zip. After that, it's been putty, plastic, and plenty of KrazyGlue.
