a motorworks observation

I have now bought 2 motorworks cars from walmart. One I bought for my little brother for his birthday, it’s a cool little car. It has very good speed, interchangeable parts, and good packaging (a nice little compartment for the extra tires and things under the charger). Only thing I really didn’t like about it is that the motor is hard wired in, so no slap it in there motor upgrades.

The second one I bought just because I was in need of some parts. I thought about buying a biglots car for this purpose, but I thought whatever I didn’t use (tires, rims and body) I would give to my brother. First thing I noticed when I opened up the car is that the steering was very different than any other bit clone I have ever seen. It has a coil in the middle moving arm and magnets in the inside of the chassis (my brothers has “normal” steering). The middle coil thing does not work worth crap. If you buy a motorworks car and it has this configuration, I would suggest returning it and trying to get one with the other steering style.

Then when I went to give the body, rims and tires to my brother we noticed that none of this stuff was interchangeable. His chassis was just a tad longer, and all of the inner hub things on his wheels were a different size. So what we have here is one manufacturer making 2 very different cars.

I thought I would mention this to give anyone a heads up… You know, if you were thinking about getting a motorworks.

BUYER BE WARE! hehe

In the end, I kept the one I bought for parts, cause it has a neat looking hotrod body.. And I put dual cells in it

I dont think the Motorworks is a clone of a bit but more competition. I bought one but some parts got lost so im looking for them but till then rest up my little car for you may live again someday. I might buy another and run it instead. So its more like RIP i have to go cry now...

I've got one of those with the center steering electro-mag, and a pair or rare-earth. Steering SUCKS!

Is there any easy way to tell the difference between the styles before you open it?

I think the ones in competition are:

Bit Char-G / MicroSizer
ZipZaps
Motorworks
F&F Nitrous Bottle
"Bullet clones"

I was trying to figure that out too... But Both cars look so much alike I dont think there is a way. I think the center coil car is a tad longer, but not enough longer to really tell when looking at it unopened. I think the best thing to do is just return it right away if you notice one you just bought has this bad steering setup.
