Epoch or Digi-Q R?
Hi, I am throughly interested with micro r/c now, and am considiring getting an epoch or a digi-q r. I am very intrested in racing, but also interested in realistic maneuvering, like parralel parking. Don't ask, but since I can't drive yet, i have a hankering to practice parallel parking. I hear the Epoch and Digi-Q R are close in speed, but after the 4 cell mod, then what? also is there any forseen spec 3 racer's coming? I have gotten cars before, to have the manafacturer soon come out with an updated version (very annoying) . I also hear that the epoch is fully porportional, but then what is the digi-q? is it semi-poportional? does it have something like 15, 30, and 45 degree turns? and do epoch racers come with lights? I found a epoch racer on ebay for sale for $40 with headlights, hazard lights, and turning signals! it also appeared to be a spec 2... here's the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2565
P.S. is there a way to race with a slightly smaller bumper? it's kind of ugly in my opinion.

Let's break your questions down...

Ya heard wrong my friend, The DigiQ is no match for the Epoch.

No info on any newer Epoch models coming, don't worry though...The Spec-2 is no disappointment.

Yes.

The DigiQ steers via the rear wheels, each has it's own motor. The controller has digital circuitry that controls the speed of each motor and that's how it steers (like a tank)

Nope, the stock Epochs don't have lights

Soory bud, but that's some clone called a 'DGMASTER' and by the looks of it a CHEESY clone too. For the $40 I'd go for a REAL DigiQ or save up for a REAL Epoch.

Hey thanx, I think i'll go for both actually but for the epoch spec 2 first. Is there a way to have working blinkers though? i would really like scale realism and be able to turn them on and off from the remote. what about the bumper, to? do they sell smaller foam ones like on 1/10 racing cars. they seem a tad smaller compared to their car body. Hey namuna do you know the turning radius of an epoch, I'd like to get started on a track and i want to make one hairpin turnand i don't want to have to find out when it comes that it will have to reverse every time the car gets to it. And what would be the ideal track width of an epoch for two cars?

Sure, you can have working blinkers...I suggest doing a net search for Epoch mods.
I strongly suggest not messing with the Epoch bumper. As big and awkward as it seems, it's a LIFESAVER for the Epochs. These things are FAST and you'll be THANKFUL you've got that bumper when you smash into a wall at full speed (and you WILL be hitting walls)
The Epoch's turning radius is TIGHT, no worries about that hairpin turn (though you'll definitely have to slow way down for it).
"Ideal" track width is heavily dependent on what type track (you gonna run a more 'technical' or more straights?) and how big you're going to make it...In general though, for a 2 Epoch setup I'd say at least 18" wide should do you well.

Thanks, i think i will build a more technical track, but for technical do you build wider, so it's easier? or maybe really narrow, so for one part, the cars have to go one by one? Any idea what the best material is, for drifting ideally, but with good grip to, i was thinking asphalt but that's a little dirty, and plywood might be a bit to rough. thanx for the info!

There's a material, I think it's called 'Ozite' or something like that...it's used for insulating speakers and the interior of cars for better sound. It's supposed to be EXCELLENT as a track surface.
