Drag racer,...or ricer?

Yeah, I know you guys are going to see the big 'ol wing on the Civic, and say "Ricer", but in my eyes this is one of those 1000hp, 6 sec quarter mile cars I was watching on ESPN2 a month ago.

See, it has a parachute!

I took the wing from a Ford Focus Hot Wheels.

I feel this is probably my best flame job to date in this scale.
Check it out, here's the bad side.

...and here's what I consider the good side.

I had trouble capturing the shade of blue in the pictures, but trust me, it looks good.

And finally the front

Flame job is painted. I did this one a little different. This one I laid the white fade on top of the yellow body, then shaped the flames around the fade I already had. Then laid the blue. Laying the blue over the yellow turned it a real pretty bright shade of blue, but like I said, I couldn't capture in pictures. That green spot on the tail end of the "bad" side is not actaully green, it's all the way the light hits it. Not quite color changing, it's more of a teal color.

Anyways, it was a backwards way to get the fade right, but it worked. When your working with spray cans, you have to get creative to get airbrush effect going on.

Well, I guess I should explain about the wing. I only bought the Hot Wheels car because it had the Meguier's logo on it. The wing bugged me, and I tried off and on, (not very hard) for months to break it off, without destroying the car. I finally got it off this past weekend. I would have just thrown it away, but my wife bought me a silver Sharpie, and I tested it out on the wing. It looked pretty good. So I thought I'd stick it on a junk body to be funny. This body is like shattered under the surface, so when I cut new slots to lower it, the plastic just chipped away. it was just thrown in a drawer, until now. I hid my mess by glueing a screen on the front and a piece of plastic on the back. I didn't intend for this to be one of my best paint jobs, it just happened.

I was kinda into the wing at first, because I did dig on those cars I saw on ESPN2, but those were full on race cars. Today I saw some Honda go past with a big wing, and a gigantic "Supercharged" decal running down the side, and it's like, "Oh my god, is this what I've sunken to?"

But really, it's got a parachute, it's a race car not a wanna be, really.

It's on my Franken-Zap chassis, tri-cells, and Microsizer PCB, and I've got fast motors, 3.0s, 3.2, 3.8s. Anyone want to race it, come on down to Phoenix, I'll take ya.

Oh well, anyways, just trying to have some fun.

I used Laquer. I tried some enamel the other day for the heck of it, and I definately prefer the laquer. It's lays so much thinner, and is shinier straight out of the can, but if you rub it out a little bit with a little bit of wax, it gets very glossy.

Is this better?

I chopped the wing down almost in half, and it's still a big sucker.

Yeah, I see where your coming from with the airplane thing.

When I go back and look at the old pictures compared to the new, it does look ridiculus.

Actually, they are Microsizer rims, but the fronts are full size rear rims, so you might have to shave back your chassis, so they don't rub, and some bodies might need the wheel wells shaved down, but the S2000, has no problems with fullsize wheels in front.
