Perfection motors not so perfect.
I had heard people saying these were faster than their other 3.8s, and even saying faster than their R-Specs. I'm here to say that is just not so in my case, but don't get me wrong, they are decent motors, and for the price I'm not complaining.
First off the Perfection 3.8 looks identical to the 2.6 clone motor that comes in the Bensu/ST Cannonballs. To the extent that when I took the clone motor out, and switched the pinions, I wasn't so sure that I put the pinion on the right motor. After running both of them, the Perfection motor was slightly faster, but not 3.8 fast. In fact I was so unsure which motor was the 3.8, I tried it in several different cars, a Bit char-G, MS Sport, MS Pro, and a LXX Modellista. I bought 2 3.8s, and with every car and both motors I came to the same conclusion, they were only slightly faster than the clone motors.
My Bit Char-G Motors pink endbell 3.8 died long ago, and the white endbell 3.2 has not been quite the same after the endbell transplant. The 3.2 was almost as fast as the 3.8. In fact, because the 3.2 is so punchy it almost seems faster in small areas, but the 3.8 would take it in the top end. So I compared the 3.2 to the Perfection 3.8, and it had similar top end, and the even though the 3.2 is not what it used to be, it still seemed faster because it is so punchy. So that's my gripe, it seems only as fast as the 3.2, but doesn't have the punch.
So I was a little disappointed with the 3.8, and wasn't expecting much from the 3.0, but it was about on track for a 3.0.
Now I'm not saying the Perfection 3.8 sucks or anything like that, I'm just saying in my experience it is not the fastest motor out there, but for $5 you absolutely can not beat it!

I’ve had similar experiences with various motors. I recently bought two 3.8 Perfection motors. One is speedy and has a decent amount of torque. It’s an awesome motor. The other has very little torque. It feels like a 3.2 in my MicroSizer Pro, but merely like a 23.5 in my Precious or Panther. I’m guessing that my Panther and Precious both require more “power” to make the gears turn.
I also have three Tomy 2.2 motors. All of them display different characteristics. To top it off, I get better speed and torque out of the 23.5 motor in my Zip Zap booster set, than with the 28 motor from the same set.
I’m starting to think that motor specifications, at this size, mean very little. I wonder if the manufacturers just build a pile of motors, individually test them under zero load for rotation speed, and throw them into the corresponding box for their generated measurement. They may get ten 3.8 motors out of the hundred they made, twenty 3.4s, thirty 2.6s, and forty 2.2s.
The real way to test a motor is under load, and I don’t think that happens. Then again, I don’t expect much testing on a motor that costs less than 10 bucks.

words of wisdom from buzzbait.
ya no load tests are very unscientific.

I bought 2 3.8s, and a 3.0, shipping was $6.75, total was 21 and some change.
I agree with Buzzbait, and to be fair I am compareing to the the fastest of 3 clone motors that all came out of Cannonballs and displayed different charcteristics, and when I transplanted the endbell on the 3.2 I experimented with advanceing the timeing. My experiments may just have been successfull in turning power into top end. Who knows? That why I was careful to say, "in my experience".

Thanks Web Guy. That gives me hope. Makes sense they might need to be broken in. I'll report back later.
