tiny, the MI mini-x meeting sounds good! Let's try to see if we can set a date and place!
Also, I was wondering which spring set I'm supposed to get for the softer springs, the MO-13 set or the MP-19 was it? Looks like they're both suspension spring sets.
BTW what is the advantage, if any, with installing the PN-racing carbon brushes?
Oh, and one last question for tiny, still have that free shipping with orders over $100? How long would it take to ship an order to me in MI?

Motors
Last night I moved my spare Mini-X motor's armature into a MZR Ball Bearing can with Neo Magnets.
I ran the motor outside the car directly from a (flat Micro RS4 6V) battery pack just to get some run time on the motor.
I then put a drop of Trinity Black Death comm drops on the comm and re-ran it. Sweet
My next phase is to adapt a heatsink to fit on the can, once completed I'll fit the new motor in the X.

You might not need a heatsink...when i installed the squat can, bb's, neo mags, and carbon brushes the motor ran much cooler.

Interesting....
I will be very interested in your results Mondo.
I too noticed the extreme play in the front (only) motor bushing. I think it was designed that way, for this reason; The front of the armature shaft is already supported by a ball bearing. With the extra play in the bushing, if there is a slight motor/chassis out-of-alignment, or the chassis flexes during use, the motor won't bind- the front "hanger" bearing still supports the armature.
I think a great combination would be Neo magnets, ball bearing can (with stock bushing in the plastic endbell), and carbon brushes.
Just a guess of course- waiting for your results!

Hybrid motor
johnstse,
I also wondered if the "slop" on the shaft was intentional.
The motor runs, but all I need to do now is solder some caps and decent motor wire on to it.
I will probably do this tonight, time permitting of course.
Onc competed, I'll give it a run. In fact, I wouldn't mind fitting Micro Connectors between the ESC and motor, so that's something else to investigate.
Once competed, I'll let you know the results

Here are my results on my modifications to the Mini-X.
http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/showthr...&threadid=9991
I do think the reason there was/is so much slop on the front bushing is again, to rely more on the front bearing for support to lighten chances of extra friction.
While doing my test runs i was "bashing" pretty hard, small rocks and a few cracks in cemet with little to no problems with the motor shaft or even the front pinion gear (very waek in some of my indoor runs).
I too hope to eventually solder better wire and maybe some connectors on the X...but right now i wanna have fun with it...so that'll be comeing later.
PS. Mini-Z guys...wanna compare your findings to that of a mini-Z...i know mine has destroyed stock and 1 slightly modified one recently...but i want more Z competition...

I have a full house Mini-Z CLK with twin turbo, NML Evader BB Motor and Z-Speed wheels fitted with foam tires.
Although it runs on 4.8VDC, I know the CLK will spank the standard Mini-X on speed and I feel confident that it will outhandle the Mini-X in it's present form.
The proof of the pudding is in the tasting and my Mini-X will undergo many improvements in time, as do all of my RC cars.
As Tiny knows, I am an extreme modifier and I do not rest until my cars meet my (somewhat great) expectations.
binaryterror when I've finished with my Mini-X, I hope it will be able to scare my (club race trim) Micro RS4 in a straight-line race, although I know it will never shine a light on my open class Micro RS4. As for handling, well the Micro RS4 will spank a Mini-X so bad.
I've just begun with the Mini-X and I am screaming out loud for some soft rubber tires.
The motor should be installed by the end of the week at the latest, then I can do some comparative testing.
