I HIT 10 MPH, then I hit something solid!
Hit a table leg at 10 mph. Hit so hard it popped the body off, also broke the steering (haven't pulled it apart yet to see how bad it is). Also broke the front of my Fast and Furious Eclipse on an earlier run in with the table leg (not full speed, before I found traction)
Ok, so here is the car:
Zip Zap Chassis
New Motorworks PCB
Motorworks steering setup (no suspension)
Hardwired Motorworks motor and pinion
3 Tomy nicads (cycled and matched like 1/10th R/C packs)
Motorworks rear tires
Hard ribbed front tires (from Microsizer tire set)
Red Zip Zap gears
I had a hard time getting this thing to hook up, no traction. So much torque it would just spin the tires and go sideways. I tried every tire I had, but no improvement. I found the traction secret, run the rear tires on sandpaper before each run. WHOA, that works, took off nice and straight!
Now the times:
(I timed runs over 20ft with a running start of about 5 ft.)
1.44 sec. 9.4 mph
1.31 sec. 10.4 mph
1.21 sec. 11.2 mph!
1.35 sec. 10.1 mph
1.29 sec. 10.5 mph
1.25 sec. 10.9 mph (then, CRASH, into table leg)
I hope the thing isn't broke too bad, I want to get some more runs with this! I will have to see if I can fix it this weekend.
SO, is this the speed record? Fastest posted speeds I have seen are around 8 mph. Please feel free to post if you have faster. No BS either, because then we would have to race!

Those are some excellent times. I once hit a wall full on and it snapped a knuckle. I hope it's nothing too serious that's a nice lil dragger you got.

That is awesome. You should be proud. I haven't been able to measure the speed of my dual cell cars. And I can't imagine what bitzilla would turn.

Got vids?
Well, no vids yet. I only have a tape video camera and no video inputs on my computer. I will have to work on borrowing a digital vid camera or a vid capture device.

my dual cell zip can do 20 feet in about 2 seconds (no official testing, just an estimate) and i'm working on my tricell zip so i could probably hit 20 feet in around 1.5 seconds

Ok, have you TOTALLY missed the concept of 1/4 mile racing? This means no running start. How fast does it do the scale quarter from a dead stop? I feel ya on the traction problem. The sandpaper may wear out those grips of yours, I use spit on mine. I'm impressed with the top speed of your car. My 3cell zap goes from a dead stop in 1.9 seconds. You must be running a higher rpm motor than me, cause I get about 8mph with red gears. My quad cell Epoch only goes 10 mph. Did you check it on a treadmill, or just a bit of stopwatch guesswork? A tenth of a second is hard to see with a stop watch in hand. When I calculated my times, I used a time counter on a digital vid camera in super slo motion. See if you can borrow one. I would love to see the car that waxed my Zap.
Good job, man. I gotta do a 4cell mod now too. I feel my testosterone elevating. Grunt, burp, fart...

^ Precisely what I was thinking. Sheesh my Toyota Crapola would run the quarter decently if i got a 1/16 mile head start!

Well, I just wanted to see how fast it would go. I did not get a chance to do any quarter mile times, because I broke it. After I fix it this weekend I will do some quarter mile times. I am going to make a light set up to get accurate timing. As for timing by hand, it can be off by a tenth, that is why I try to average about a dozen runs to allow for errors. The motor is the stock wired motor from the Motorworks car (white endbell 3.2?). I am also running taller tires which will increase top speed. I have an even taller set, but it will require chassis mod to fit them. I did time one standing 20 ft. (not scale 1/4 mile) at 1.71. Now, where was that thread on timing light (lap counter).

Here is a pic of the pro-stock mustang. I use a honda body when running it so I don't break the mustang body.
I got the thing fixed. One of the magnets popped of. It must have tweaked something, the steering is not the same. A little tweaking and tuning, added a second steering spring, it should be OK.
I got the lap counter/timer working, I just need a couple of mirrors to get the start and finish lines. I should be able to get some accurate times now. I will get some scale 1/4 mile (20.625 ft.) times, as well as some top speeds.
