I don't really know. Just find some stiff wire with a solid copper core and not a bunch of little strands of wire in it.

A cat 5 antenna is a replacement antenna made of a piece of Catagory 5 cable, which is solid core, as opposed to stranded core wire used on the stock cars.

Catagory 5 cable has many pairs of wires in differing colors which means you can pick a color. You can also use Cat 3 or telephone cable, as the wire is similar (as long as it isn't the REALLY old stuff which is too big.

I use black, which goes with everything, and is harder to see.


The advantage of a cat 5 antenna is you can make it longer for better reception, and it stays straighter, again improving reception.
Another advantage, although purely technical, is that solid core wire is better for antennas in general, as it is a better conductor.
