Um bascially, making stuff is not how good you can come up with, I think its more of orginality. For example take yours; basically all I see is an orb created with bevel and with some airbrush strokes on the top, you make the neat reflection, and the ring around it, inner bevel plus a bunch of other blending options, I used it on my TinyRC wallpaper too (see image on the bottom hehehe) and I will admit I looked at some tutorials to make that orby thing around the trueno which I believe it was called LCD orb or sumthin.

Well, as for my avatar, it stinks; ten second quick work with the selection and layer stuff.

No bevel, only gradients and bluring, and light effects......
heh I dont think I should win, (stupid contest anyways) I think dabigpig has a pretty good one, heh. I was just pointing out that crappy animated avatars suck...

Animations are good if you can loop them without any seams (errr...whatever that thing is called) I mean like you can animate from the last frame to the first with no problems.

Hmmm...blending options inner bevel would be more flexible than gradients in my opinion, gradients is more like a radial gradient then like adjust the layer blending modes.

Besides, this isnt a contest, no prize, rules or the contest whatnot stated.

I am not using any fancy layer blending options..... I dont understand, lol you are making my avatar seem way to advanced. its just a circle selection filled with a dark to light red gradiant, then a white to transparant half gradient on top.... the ring indent is just a circle selection a little bigger than the first with a gradiant in it from dark to light... the ring is just a white ring channel blured, then add a lighting effect to it. so its very easy to modify very versatile......
(all gradiants are just linear, no radial or anything)

to simple
