If you paint on a thick (but even) coat of black RTV silicon (ace hardware), you'll see why painting isn't that bad. A thin coat will peel off after a few runs. Slot car drivers have been doing this for ages. They'd buy soft foam tires and paint them with a silicon/latex based product. Mrrider, is this sorta what you're trying? Looks to me you painted on the white silicon.

I understand why you would paint slot car tires...because mostly slot car tires stay on the hubs and don't get flexed around like Bit tires do when you swap them on and off of axles. If you take your painted tires off and put them on axles more than like once or twice, you're going to crack the paint.
