Working Spring Suspension
You can make "suspension springs" by getting a ball point pen (the clicking kind) and taking out the spring. Cut them to size and put them on your front tires.

Could you please elaborate on how you did this, because I tried it with my car, and the metal springs messed with the magnets in the steering. I was now longer able to make the wheels turn. If you have pics, or have found plastic springs, please share that info. Thanks.

Sorry I dont have any pics, but I had a very small springs. There's a similar mod at www.questformadness.com, except it uses the official Tomy springs. Check that out...

Yep that mod site is the best, even for engineering-challenged people like me. Just today I opened up the steering mechanism to melt the stem holding the spring in place so there wouldn't be any lost spring in the future, i checked my magnet alignment (A-OK) and cleaned the crud from between my front wheels and the knuckles. When I have time I have the confidence now to go pick up some rare earth mags to install, maybe even some springs.

Maybe it's just me, but I did this spring mod on my one of my Z-Cars and steering jammed on turns. Seems that the magnet was affected by the metal springs. Anyone else experience this?
BTW, this was on my stock Z-Cars, no REM steering mod.

i also did the spring mod, what you need to do is the rare earth magnet steering mod on www.questformadness.com that will solve your sticking problem..
i made you a little diagram. what it shows is how the steering works. the two little red things are electro magnets linked to the circuit board. and that black thing in the middle is a standard magent. what happens is when you push the remote button to the left, the remote sends a signal to the electro magnet on the sides and turns it on, the electro magnet then pulls the black meagnet in the middle towards it, thus, turning the car. but the magnet in the middle isnt TOO strong. when you replace the black magnet with rare earth magnets, they will provide a stronger pull to the other side. result: your black magnet wont stick to the springs. yay! (the black magnet in the diagram will most likely be silver in your car) hope this isnt TOO confusing. only trying to help

Perfectly clear, except that one thing doesnt make sense. I know how electromagnetic steering mechanisms work, no problem there. I know that the stock magnet is weak in comparison to the REM magnets. However, your statement that by providing a stonger magnet will resolve the problem with my magnet being attracted to the metal in the springs. Wouldn't this cause more of a problem? Seems that the proper solution would be to increase the current being sent to each coil and creating a stronger field that will attract the steering magnet towards it.
BTW, I do already have REM's installed which is where my problem became more evident. Not too bad on stock magnets.
Awesome pic though

I had that same problem tonight when I tried it. I replaced my stock magnet with the REM and then installed the springs. The magnet was too strong and the wheels wouldn't turn. I have been looking either for plastic springs or maybe even aluminum springs? Looks like for now I will either have to sacrifice one or the other. The REM and the metal pen springs just don't work.

should the springs have large gaps, or smaller gaps in them?
