d'NaNo HD CamCar on the new Porta-Trax banked oval

Here's a track-level video made from a modified d'Nano HD CamCar of the new Porta-Trax TTR (table top racing) system that will released in March.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WLmhbcTmQg

We will be installing the first of these tracks into Mini-Car Club of Canada (MC3) for testing and customer feedback. This oval track should be ready at MC3 in the next two-three weeks and, if all goes well, we may do a full road-course.

The realistic view from the CamCar and the sense of speed is simply unmatched. We will be adding track lighting and other enhancements as the project reaches the finished product stage.

This track sits on a Ping-Pong table (with extension tables) and rolls-up after use. Completely seamless surface and cushioned rail system. - Lorne

... I'll have pictures and details of the HD CamCar conversion soon too.

Circuit Race Times...race-preped Mazda lap times are sub 3 seconds, 2.70 has been the fastest of the roughly 5000 laps I've done. Staying under 2.9 for multiple laps is challenging.

The CamCar is almost 3/4 of a second slower, and it will roll if leaned too far into a corner.

Even though these laps are over in, well, seconds and the circuit is only 15'x6' ...I much prefer the banked oval to a small road course that has only a few turns (boring). You need at 20-25' to make a real road course that you will not tire of in a few days. "Hitting the track" for a few late night solo 50 lap (average time and fastest lap) ...makes solo racing not only feasible, but fun.

Racing Line
If you're real smooth you can drive the track at full throttle, but you'll need to hit the banking just perfect. Several racing lines are possible, with the best being 95% to the wall in-corner and then diving down to near the infield rail along the straight ...if you thought oval racing was easy, it is not ...holding constistant lap times mistake-free, requires much concentration and is beyond my abilities. The Kyosho/Flipside timing combination with "spoken" lap times make tuning the car and learning the best driving line a progressively more rewarding experience.

d'NaNo CamCars
I am trying to source the same parts as we used to build this CamCar ...we may offer a retro-fit for the d'NaNo/Mini-z, sinec we've had quite a bit of interest. I will be making a video of the CamCar soon. - Lorne

We should have some pricing in the next two weeks: for the banked oval and perhaps a triple-chicane layout, as shown in some of my other threads. A road course and DIY (i.e. you buy rails and base material as needed) are also in the works ...

I'm new to Dnano. My RCP track due tomorrow and car on Wednesday. I love what you are trying to do. I love having track options and flexibility. Is there a mailing list to get notified of status, options, availabilty, etc? Or just keep an eye on the forum.

I love the video and too would be interested in the camera set-up. I love the sound the best. Sounds more like a real racer than an RC car.

Is that a Nintendo flower monster coming out of turn 3? Where are the flying bullets (LOL).

I can't wait to run my Dnano for the first time.

the video quality is very impressive! rivals the stuff kyosho produces for their advertisements (mini-z drifting). i have not done on board video since taping my camera to a mini-z.

love to see what the price point is. is the video feed wireless or do you have to download off the camera?
