1/43 Front Runners from Team Up with Nascar Bodies

Has anyone else picked these up. I bought two at Wally world (27mhz and 49mhz). I have seen 2 variations of these. The one at RS has an air rachet style controller and the ones that I got are stick controllers. I have seen these at K-Mart too.

I know that these are not propo just buy driving them. But they are fun none the less. I was just wondering if anyone has tried any mods on them. They are cheap and readily available so I thought maybe it wouldn't be too bad if I fried one just to try to mod.

It has a motor for steering that has a yellow end cap and it turns way too fast for me I was wondering if I could swap this out for a slower motor and would that have any negative effect other than the slower response.

They have no suspension in them at all.

They are really easy to take apart and see what's going on in them too. I just wish I knew more about r/c electronics so I could try things out myself.

The motor that pushes the car looks like a slot car motor.

Any suggestions on what I could try to make these cars more driveable would be appreciated.

The Front Runners are in the back row. I added the other cars just to show size differences. The cars in the middle are 1/50 scale and the cars in the front are 1/64 scale.

I contacted Team Up to try to get more information on these cars and the response I got was all information on their products is on their website.

Their website has broken links and the information they have on their 1:6 cars that I did find (after trial and error) provided little information on the cars so I would expect the same for these cars as well.

Seems like all of the small scale cars are going away. I can't find anything on the shelves anywhere except for these and a couple of muscle car toy r/c's (Chevelle and Camaro bodies) and I suspect that these will be gone soon too.

Yessir, unfortunately you came into this at the tail end of the hype and glory.

At the "micro" Micro scale (1/64th and smaller)
- The DigiQ never really took off in the US
- The Bit Char-g were HOT for awhile, but Tomy stopped manufacturing them...Which then led to the halt of Microsizers (Bit Char-G rebranded, for US markets)
- The ZipZaps too have fallen under the Axe, but there's glimmers of hope that they'll still come out (albeit in much smaller varieties than before) with new models.

At the "small" Micro scale (1/43rd scale)
- The Epoch "Indoor Racers" are still around, but there hasn't been anything new in years and even though they are FULLY proportional cars they never really took off.
- You don't see much in the way of cheapy 1/43rd scale, so I imagine that Team-up stuff is just some cheapo components and the people selling them don't much care about getting quality details out.

At the "medium" Micro scale (1/2x scale)
- The MiniZ is still hot and happening
- The Xmods by RadioShack has enjoyed a good deal of success and there's 2 new vehicles coming out (car and truck)...But there's also rumor tha the Xmods is going away in favor of a new (bigger) brand called ProPulse

And at the "large" Micro scale (1/18th scale)
- The Xray M18 and HPI Micro RS4 cars. I certainly can't find squat in the local Hobby Shops for this stuff anymore, it's all online buy for me.

At the "micro" micro scale, it's cyclical. It seems to become popular again every several years. The supplies are scarce so if you can find stuff I'd suggest hoarding what you can to hold you off until the next "cycle" begins!
