dod u do this using the motorworks motor? and why do so many people use motor works pcb boards. do they let u use more voltage or somthing?

It,s Official. I got the lap timer set up, and it turns out my stopwatch numbers were pretty accurate. I got a scale 1/4 mile (20' 7.5") time of 1.75 seconds, and a best top speed of 11.07 mph (running start). I only got in a few runs today because I did actually have to do some work at work today. I will post better numbers as I get them. Time to mod the chassis for the taller tires (more top speed). The lap timer was super easy, works great.
Here is the laptimer thread:

Yes that is with the motorworks motor, imagine that. I used the motorworks board because it has a lot of torque. That means it will let more amperage through the circuit (maybe a little more voltage).

I cut the chassis and dremmeled the rear wheel wells to fit the taller tires on the Pro Stock Zip Zap. It had little effect on scale 1/4 mile times, I got 1.77 seconds. The top speed did go up a bit, I hit 11.6 mph! I may drop down to the green gears to see if that improves 1/4 mile times (if it will hook up).

And that's all folks! lol ok I am impressed...I used to think that load would take away about .5 or 1 mile of speed, but now I realized that it cuts the speed in about half. So, my NX motor with the red gears actually goes at 3.5 mph, and if your car goes at 11.6, WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!
Anyway, I'm posting tips for those who wanna improve their car speed a LITTLE bit:
Keep your tires clean and make sure they have good traction. no grip on the road can sometimes be the cause of flip outs.
use a low gear ratio. A yellow NOS nitrous (I prefer to call it NOS instead of turbo) paired with red gears can actually surpass the NX motor with the blue gears.
Don't use motors higher that 30,000 rpms if you're using dual/tri cells. The motor will get fried with the high rpms and voltage, kinda like when Vin Diesel in F&F said, "So as long as you don't do any granny shifting, that hundred shot of NOS won't blow the welds on the intake" Yada yada.....
Oh, and try racing without the shell and front tires. They only add load to the car.....and without the shell, it won't look too attractive, but it will go faster. This also goes for wheelie bars, any silly putty, external batts (try the Layman's batts, available at RS), etc. You could remove the pcb cover for less load and more oxygen for the circuits.
One more thing: FULLY CHARGED batts can increase speed because of more energy.
Oh, and NEVER try to use ACTUAL nos on your car lol
If you follow these speedy tips then you may be the speed record holder one day! Who knows?

JesterDotCom, what did I just say???? Don't use 3.0's or higher with dual/tri cells!!! Except for maybe the Phast motor, since it has enough torque to handle higher voltage....anyway, try using a Layman's dual celled phast motor with the 3.43 to 1 gears and that should go at about 20 mph WOW did I just say a way to get a faster speed?????? remember, this is my idea so don't steal it and try to take the credit, you may get banned in the attempt! lmao

Here is a pic without the body. You can see the fronts of two of the batteries. There is also a battery in the stock location. You can also see the dual magnet single coil steering from the motorworks. I did the coil myself, made it wider to reduce the steering travel. Slight course correction under full speed, without wiping out, during the 1/4 mile is possible with a tap on controller.

Not exactly.....I think those wheels are kinda cool!
Anyways, you said the motorworks PCB allows more torque, and bascially you used mostly motorworks guts......steering, motor, pcb.....
I'm thinking of getting the Motorworks car alone, and I was wondering if a Layman's tricell/quad cell would fit. That would be some fast (censored)!!!!!! Thanks bdebde.
I'm kinda amazed this hasn't been moved to Bit Science......
Chuckster...

This post is very old i know. I really love motorworks. I think this is one of my favorite threads i've read. i love the picture of that one r/c car with mainly motorworks stuff in it. I think the knowledge in this thread is very interesting..
Thanks
