Outdoors motor and gear picks

I changed my mind. Definately yellow motor with green pinion gear and green or red gears. The orange motor, although supposidly has highest torque, has nothing as far as low RPM. When stuck it stays stuck. any other motor could make it thru my water/mudpit and orange stuck. Orange no good except for high speed. But as far as outdoors goes, crawler is a little bit too slow sometimes. So i used a water/mudpit and tried out diff gears and found yellow motor does very well and red is a lil slower if you tend to be bouncing around a lot. i will some pics and vid of yellow motor green gears.

edit: can't make video smaller. trying to find free site to upload video that won't delete it in a week

Please tell me about the green pinion: Is it a commercial item or one of your own making (and if so, how did you make it)? How many teeth are on it? Thanks.

green pinion

It was from a generic "Dome car." It was the pinion off of that car. I has 6 teeth and had to "drill" it out to fit the larger zzmt. I don't have a drill bit small enough so i had to use a paperclip. a small one. I took a pair of cutters and sort of twisted the poaperclip in the cutter to make grooves or a "drill" out of it. Then put it on the motor and BAM more torque. It does make a difference even if it is just one tooth.

Pic explains the rest

Thanks for your very descriptive reply. A single tooth difference will often make for very different results. If you're interested in calculating your gear ratio, please see my site at www.gcrossett.com/zipzaps/.

Good work and information. Keep us informed with your results.

Thumbs up

Nice pics!

I've done away with those larger pinions for the most part.

Oh, and try the 4-gear crawler mod if possible, it rocks!
