Crawler question

I've seen a lot of mods to ZZMT's that turn them into crawlers. I was wondering, why does the modification call for the addition of a servo motor? Does it have to do with controlling the pitch of the wheels? Just wondering.

Falcon15--

If you are referring to the mod I posted on my ZZ website, please return there and view it again. Note that I have replaced the stock MT motor with a steering servo (motor and gears) from a ZZSE. The servo itself provides a much higher gear ratio, thus lower rpm. The servo output replaces the stock MT motor pinion gear. I have not yet computed the gear ratio of the servo, but should I do so, I'll post it on my site. I do know the ratio is much higher than that of my five-gear mod.

I hope this reply answers your question.

Thanks. By the way, in order to do this mod, is the servo absolutly neccessary or can it be done with out it?

Wait, I see the page your referring to. I wasn't asking about that mod. I was asking about the mod that alows the back wheels to move up and down freely (by seperating the back end from the front and puting it on a movable axis). I've seen instructions in which that mod calls for a servo and I'm not sure why.

Let me throw a "me too" in there.

It looks like articulation and/or lengthening may be the next mod to look into.

chilli_mp138, if your site hits go up, it because your site is the most definative one I've found on ZZMT mods!!

_Mad_ props to all the extreme modders here who inspire poor fools like me!

Happy New Year!!

The articulation mod is the one I was talking about. Sorry, I had just forgoten what it was called. That mod calls for a servo and I'd like to know why.
