26 / 24 / 22? What wire size for the antenna?

I've modded my antenna with the 26 gauge wire. I have 24 and 22 solid but would like to know if anyone has the 'best' gauge for the antenna.

I use 24gauge m'self. It's a bit on the thick side, but I seem to be able to get 15foot of range with only a length of 2" (from the body).

I've also tried using 'cross connect' wire, which is a type wire commonly used in the Telephone world...I like that wire much better, it's solid core but very pliable.
