You should make an electronic scoring system with a scoreboard that puts up "to-scale" speed...now that would be nice.

I was kind've joking, but if you could rig something like that up...that would be very nice.
I don't know what that "zipzaps speed thing" is (not a ZipZapper). Do you have any electronic skills?

My brother's scout troop had a pinewood derby thing a week ago, their strip had a relatively simple scoring system. I don't know how the times were relayed (thing was read into by a laptop instantaneously), but they had a simple motion-sensor above each of the three lanes with different relay circuits, so that the first place finisher had a light above the land that came on, second places blinked, and third didn't come on at all.
