Possible way to make the car go a LOT faster....by REMOVING a feature!

Ok, open up your ZipZap SE (unscrew the pcb) and look at where the battery is. Notice that behind it, there is a capacitor connected to the wires going to the motor holder. I'm guessing that is the voltage regulator, since both the ends of the capacitor are going to the motor wires. I'm guessing that it downs the voltage, so I think that perhaps if you were to remove it, then more voltage would go to the motor and you'd be 25-75% faster. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Do the connections go like this?
If they do it is probably a filter cap.

I think it's something like that....what's a filter cap? and if it's not the voltage regulator, where is the voltage regulator located then?

I don't have an zzse, but from what you're saying, that sounds like it's just a conditioner of sorts. By putting a cap there it allows for more instantanious on, and helps keep the power more consistant towards the end of the battery charge. Infact, if you are going to do a dual cell or add additional electrical stuff (i.e. extra lights), then you might want to look at increasing the size of the cap.

Sorry, I was thinking that the "cap" was the voltage regulator, that it downs the voltage of the 2.4 volt battery. I was thinking that if you removed it, more voltage would go in. However, I think that the voltage regulator would be embedded somewhere in the P.C.B., so you probably would need something different......

If you remove it you :

1: Save weight on a hilariously overweight car

2: Save battery power on something more useful than smooth starts

3: Other things beneficial

DETAILS Racer9, I need DETAILS. Where is the voltage regulator in the car? Can you remove it? Etc etc.

What are the other things that are "beneficial"?

Other things I can't think of. Remove the capacitor and see what it does

volt regulator

I removed that volt regulator and the result was awesome! It increased both accelleration and top speed. i saw an increase of alomst 50%! I only have the stock 21000 rpm motor and it was was i put a 3.8 on it. I saw no side affects but that it doesnt run as long, but it still runs long. I cant wait to try this with the NX motor. later

that's great..as long as it doesn't have any long term effects, such as a fried pcb and/or motor

i love reading 10 posts of misinformation.

if you remove the cap, yes you may gain a little power, yes you will have decreased range.

they put the caps in the circuit to filter out noise which interferes with the rx.

the range is the same. its exactly like before i took off the regulator, except for the increase in speed.

Nevertheless, it is indeed a filter cap, not a regulator, and is there to filter out unwanted RF noise generated by the motor.
