PC Board replacement

How much of the parts on the stock PC Board is really necessary for the actual operation of the car?

I have seen the FET mod on here and was curious if relocating the crystal and necessary parts could the fet mod take the place of the smaller board? Of course you would no longer be able to use a light kit.

While on this topic does anyone have really good pics of the boards?

CJ,

Here is a picture of the fron and back of the board. If you do take the board out you will probably lose the servo as well. Standard RC servos have a circuit board inside and only take commands from the receiver. However on the xmods the control circuitry is on the pc board. If you look at the label that says servo wires you will see the standard 3 wires going to the servo however there is also a red and blue wire coming off the board. These go directly to the servo motor.

I knew that! What I am looking for to do is remove the light controls and make the board smaller by removing the parts that are NOT nesssary.

BTW: I have a degree in Electronics and have been on RC for over 20 years. I just have less free time (and hair) now then I use to have.

Sorry CJ I didnt mean to offend Are you are talking about the smaller circuit board with the crystal and the connector for the lights? I guess I should hve read your post more carefully.

Here is the best pic I have of the small circuit board. There appears to be a tuning coil and other components on the board, I assume related to the receiver portion of the electronics (Im not a degreed EE but I play one at work). If these components are not important for what you are trying to accomplish then I would guess you could remove them. The light connector appears to just use this as a pass through point, But as I dont have a schematic and I havent hooked up a meter to verify this its only a guess.

Hope this helps,

John

Well the light wiring and connector can definitely be removed. I took it off my one board pretty early on in my modding.
