Is the HeatSink really needed?

I just got a Supra and I already had the Stage2 motor upgrade to use on My Civic so the Q is is the HeatSink really needed on the Stage2 motors because obviousely one of 'em is going to have to make it without one.

It depends on the driving conditions. If your running on carpet or a high friction surface you need a heatsink. Some people on the forum have made their own custom heat sinks.

it's a MUST if you're running more than 4 cells and a stage-2 or better also.

The RS S2 heatsink is just about worthless. Heatsinks are great for motors when you are running a hotter setup or a a high friction surface, but you'll want to use something better than the RS one...

Steal one off some RAM and cut it to fit.

just think about this, during production they had to stop halfway thru and cut the board in half and add the heatsink dude to overheating. id say its necessary.

The heatsink fits in tight which should mean more contact.

Anyway, I doubt that you can mount the heatsink without damaging/removing the sticker. I just took a blade and carved a line at the number ratings so I can still identifythe motor.

I also noticed a slight warm feel on the heatsink after a minute or two of solid running. However, the bottom of the chassis had warm air coming out of the little vents.

Looks like the heatsink does help dissipate heat but there is barely any airflow in the body. However, the heat from the stage 2 motors isn't that hot.

After 15 minutes or so running on rcp-track my stage 2 is hot enough to burn your fingers.

Leave the heat sink on, I use thermal compound for computer heat sinks to promote maximum heat disapation.
