Question
Would a 5th cell mod fry a stage two motor? Or is it the same as with 4 cells?

LOL
If you want to add run time, you wire the extra battery up one way. If you want to add power, you wire the battery up differently.
Thats the difference between running the batteries in a parralel or a series.
The extra 1.2-2.4v won't fry your motor. The motor itself can handle quite a bit of voltage(more than 12v).

thats right the motor can handle more than 18 volts but the electronics are the problem. without some serious modding or replacement w/ stronger electronics they wont take more than 9 volts.

Quite a few people, and I have no reason to not trust it, consider 8.4v the max that the stock ESC can take without damage - atleast for extended periods of time.
