i would rather have a fan sucking the heat off of the motor my dad builds computers so i know how fans work and it would be better

ok sucking heat is good what about blowing cool air over the motor/heatsink to an exhaust port in the rear?

THe only problem is then you would have another motor draining the power. It would work better (Sense the car is already going forward) if you were to have a scoop in the front, and an exause opening in the back. Then fresh air would be scooped in the front and hot air would flow out the back. However the car is soo small I doubt that either cooling method would make any difference. The heatsink does the best that canbe done, considering the limited ammount of room and power available.

use those 40 mm fans, they're about an inch and a half each side but they produce little wind and the best i've seen of this size moves like 10 cfm whihc is like a very very light breeze. i suggest use the roof scoop to channel air down to the heatsink and out the back somewhere so that as the car speeds up air rushes in, cools the heatsink, and leaves

The only place I see that can handle a fan is if you replace the hood with a fan. But that would look kinda silly.

ok, sure but....
This is nice and all, but what's the point? It'll make the car heavier, and as far as I know, it'll provide no performace boost because these motors don't get hot enough to fry themselves and don't turn faster if cooler. In a car, cold air makes the engine breath better and on a CPU, it'll run faster when cooler, but these motors are not processors or combustion chambers, so I don't see the point.

cool engines do run faster because it takes longer for the the parts to warm up the warmer the parts the less performance you get. also thinking about it the hood scoop and tru exhaust out the back would be the best idea light weight and effective in junction with the heat sink thanx for all the feed back

Yes you might gain a speed increast by adding a fan, but you also gain weight, and you also place a larger drain on the car's internal power system. On a car as small as an X-Mod the weight and power drain may more than offset the speed increase, so you could end up with a slower car in the end. If you were luckey you might break even, except for a shorter battery lifespan.

yes you're adding weight, youre gonna go slower but if someone wants to do this why not? it it'll make them feel better that their motors not gonna fry its worthit.

Just for the record, are any of these crazy ideas necessary? Has anybody had a problem with their xmod motor that was caused my heat?

Bleeker I have one of the tiny fans you are talking about, that is about 1 inch by 1 inch square and I also have a tiny heat sink that it clips to.
FYI, the fan and heat sink are from a Pentium 1 CPU, and I believe it was the stock fan and heatsink. The fan has almost no weight to it at all because it's tiny and plastic, I'm sure it draws next to no power. So you might want to try searching for a heatsink and fan for a Pentium 1 CPU and see if you find what you need.
My thoughts about it though would be....doesn't the stage 2 motor have a heat sink that attaches to it? Well, why not clip the fan to the heat sink? You could use the Pentium 1 heat sink because it has more fins on it than the radio shack one does so it should actually cool better.
So, why not put a roof scoop on, backwards...use it as a vent...hook up the fan on top of the heat sink on top of the motor and set the fan so it sucks instead of blows, and it would act as a vent fan sucking heat out of the body of the car and expelling it out of the roof scoop. I have a digital camera if you need a picture of the fan or anything, but you probably knows what it looks like. The fan is maybe 1/4 inch tall, but I haven't measured it. There would be no problem mounting it in the xmod. on the heat sink, or inside attached to the roof of the car. It's that tiny.

no, a roof scoop on backwards looks to weird. if the car has a wing put the exhaust under the wing or behind the bumper
