I've got one on order... I want to really put my custom FET upgrade to the test, so I figured it would be a good choice.

$11 at Tower, BTW. All the other motors in the lineup are $5 or less.

So what type of Fets do you have installed?

SI4562DY or IRF7389 MOSFET chips?

Are you stacking these that will require putting a hole in the aluminum or are you going all the way through the plastic too?

Neither. I don't waste my time with those puny little chips... . My setup is using discrete IRL3705 and IRF4905 HEXFETs, capable of handling 77A of current at 55V. That is equivalent to having a 10x10 stack of IRF7389s.

Do I need to mod the FETS if I get a Tamiya motor?

neurokinetik that's quit a set up you have going on. So, what your telling me is that I shouldn't waist my time soldering in the SI4562DY MOSFETS? I'm just worried that with the 6 cell and your set up with all the extra wire will not fit under my RSX body. Things are very tight with just the 6 cells right now.

I need to move this back up for neurokinetik to respond.

neurokinetik how did the new Tamiya Plasma Dash Motor work out? I see this mod motor pulls 3.5 times the current of the stock motors. That’s quite a bit more so something will have to give.

What are you using to measure the current draw?

I have yet to run it in the car. I ran out of time last night at the track, for some reason my car with the FET mod was totally dead after I put it all back together. I'm going to redo all the battery wires and go from there.

I measured current by wiring up a set of 4 batteries directly to a motor, going through the ammeter on the way.

Anyway, all the info about the FET mod is here:

http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/showthr...threadid=14725

I have heard that the Plasma Dash has been known to kill stacked setups in Mini-Z's. That's one of the reasons I have chosen to try it with my setup. BTW, it does fit under stock bodywork with no problem.

Will the Plasma Dash kill the XMODS FETS?

I'm quite certain it will. It draws WAAAAYYYY more current than even my most extreme hand wound creation so far.

yup, lets see what i have burned with it....

miniz with twin turbo (that got messy)
minix with stock esc plus fets for 16amps continuous output
minix with teamorion flash esc (went crazy then stopped... for good)
minix with novak spy esc
and i tried with my lrp quatum micro "no motor limit" and it shut down.. a few times. it wont even try to run the thing ;p

so... i have this motor and nothin to race it in. i have it in a tamiya handrouter at the moment.

... that is one evil motor. props to the first guy to use it safely

Ahhhhh crap. What are other Tamiya motors that are good and wont destroy FETS? Or how do I modify the FETS?

Well, I just tried it (Plasma Dash) in my car, and it is horrible. Complete waste of time. With the car in the air, it spins the tires fast enough for them to fly off. Put it on the ground, and it hardly has enough torque to move the car. It's as bad or even worse than the 25 turn motor I made.
